My tribute to Zhou Yu

I am giving a tribute to Zhou Yu. A Genral of Wu. He deserves our honor for his actions. Cao Ren on the other hand... When you read this. please give a moment of silence to comerate him. A great general, a great warrior, and a man of arts.

Hell. He was one of the best general and strategist in Wu kingdom and 3 kingdom as well. Zhuge Liang never able compared to his talent. In Chi Bi, he was the commander who defeated Cao Cao massive army. Zhuge Liang didn't have any contribution to the victory if being compared to Zhou Yu.

A Comparison is NOT Accurate

I'm sorry, Zhang Liao, but I cannot agree with your view. The information and evidence you gave is not entirely historically accurate. If you read San Guo Zhi (SGZ), and other documents of the Three Kingdoms Period, (like Generals of the South), you might find that not only has Zhou Yu never tried to kill Liu Bei, he probably only met Zhuge Liang once. Also there was no reason for Zhou Yu, a man well-known in the land and one with a greater reputation than Zhuge Liang's to be jealous of him, when at the time Zhuge Liang's fame had not risen so high yet. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is very biased in that way. If you count the battles Zhou Yu participated in when he was alive, you should realize that he won every single one of them. That's a high accomplishment. Whereas, Zhuge Liang lost some battles (some scholars believe Zhuge Liang lost about half of the battles he directed). Anyways, you can't really compare Zhou Yu with Zhuge Liang, because Zhou Yu died at the age of 35 and Zhuge Liang lived to 6o or so. So, unless there was some way of knowing an alternate future, Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang are really on different planes. I believe that both did much for their respective kingdoms and both should be equally respected and revered for their accomplishments (although Zhuge Liang is glorified in Romance of the Three Kingdoms). As for the Battle of Chi Bi, that battle was won through the united effort of many good generals, not just Zhou Yu, or Liu Bei, or Zhuge Liang, however, Zhou Yu was a commanding general, so he had a vital role at Chi Bi.

Oh, and I do not believe Zhou Yu went against Zhuge Liang from personal reasons or otherwise. If Zhuge Liang was able to outwit Zhou Yu's many schemes, how was Zhou Yu able to win every battle he ever fought? (historically) So as you see, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and its "info" varies from historical evidence. And although the Romance of the Three Kingdoms is based on historical information, it is a 'novel', and with a novel's elements of villany, suspense, plot, etc. so it is not a very reliable source.

A Poem for Zhou Yu

  • The battle at the Red Cliffs made him famous;
  • Though young in years he gained a veteran's reputation.
  • Deep feeling, his music declared its intensity;
  • Subtle, with excess hospitality he foiled a plot;
  • Persuasive, he obtained a large gift of grain from Lu Su;
  • Capable, he led an army of millions.
  • Baqiu was his death bed, there his fate met him.
  • Sadly indeed they mourned him.

What the heck is this?

"Many agree that had Zhou Yu not perished before his plan was complete, the kingdom of Wu may have triumphed over Wei and Shu-Han."

Who comes up with this stuff? I can also do this and type "Many say that Zhou Yu was actually a transvestite." I guess that'd be reason enough to put it here then!

I hate how all the Three Kingdoms articles on Wikipedia are half-assed attempts made by fans of the stupid KOEI games. What a pity.

Major Revision

Ok, finally that was finished. I read Sanguo Zhi's biographal account of Zhou Yu, looked up the chinese link to Zhou Yu and I have translated them as faithful as possible to english. I am not saying its perfect, but I think it only needs grammatical revision.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms People!!! Please don't change this historical account into one of those pseudohistorical fantasies please!! You have been warned.

The Wu General Zhou Yu

I can't say much about Zhou Yu, but from the novel, he performed just as much as Cao Cao and others could have in their life. In the campaign for Wu, Zhou Yu proves his capabilities worthy of being grand and amazing. At Chi Bi, he used treacherous tactics and superior terrain advantages to beat Cao Cao with help from various Wu generals that handled the Wei army well in water. (And yes, it is from the novel's P.O.V.) More importantly, Zhou Yu, without a doubt, deserves a high praise for all his success and the battles he fought in.

The only thing that makes Zhou Yu and Zhuge Liang comparable, to me, is how well planned, how useful, and clever they used ruses and strategy to tip things in their favor.--Zhang Liao 04:18, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Zhou Yu

Judging by your image URL you are a hapless KOEI fan. Comparing Zhou Yu to Zhuge Liang is, as any other comparison, a matter of opinion. I believe that had Zhou Yu exceeded the tact of Zhuge Liang he would be more noted than the fan-wielding tactician. I can walk go about some library and ask someone of Zhuge Liang with a response of "Wasn't he a confucious?" or something along those lines. Of course Romance of the Three Kingdoms is biased in Shu's favor, however had the two ever squared off I believe Zhuge Liang would have won. Why? Taking into consideration the age difference, experience, noteriety, and the scope of Zhuge Liang's strategies. Of course, this is merely an opinion, and it is foolish to thrust it upon you as fact. It's like arguing over who is a better basketball player, or even as frivelous as arguing over the best dessert, both best in different ways. And by the by, Chi Bi is referred to as Red Cliffs in the book.. basing encyclopedia knowledge on a video game doesn't turn out for the best facts.

...Baqiu or Lujiang?

Hay sup fellow ZhouYuists~ Wasn't ZY buried in Baqiu? That's what I've always heard. Is that just novel fluff? Though, it would make sense for him to be buried in Lujiang. More sense than Baqiu, in fact.

EDIT: Might as well state my opinion on ZY while I'm here. :D So, Zhou Yu. Awesome in his own overrated, over-compared way. It seems to be a novelty in this fandom to pull out the "Zhuge vs. Zhou" card, but I don't really see the point in that, seeing as the entire "OMG UR SMARTER THAN ME I KEEL YOO." episode of the novel was just added dramallama that Luo added in to make Zhuge look even more godlike. Zhou Yu is interesting, I'll give you all that. He's a favourite of mine, don't know why. I just love how his story's been twisted around so many times that debates about him just become an unintelligable mass of "O WAIT YOU MEAN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT SGZ?" Just overall lovability. <333 I personally think he wouldn't have become such a big damn deal if it weren't for those meddling ki-- erm, Koei. Koei's strategy appears to be: 1. Take historical character 2. Portray him as a long-haired ladyboy 3. ???? 4. PROFIT! So, yeah. -.-;;; Xia is done with her fangirl rampage and now must retreat back into obscurity until provoked by Koeitards. --Shen Xia <3
