Who represents Confrey?
[edit]Conspicuous by its absence from the article: Who controls the copyright in Confrey's compositions after "By the Saphire Sea"? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 05:19, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
"Ragtime" references
[edit]I've suggested removing the references to ragtime, which is distinct from the novelty piano genre of which Confrey was the most illustrious figure. With its relative lack of syncopation—which still seemed too primitive to most white audiences—and complex melodies more reflective of classical music, it functioned as a transitional style prior to the widespread popularity of early jazz. Its contrasts with ragtime are actually what made it significant in American music history. – AndyFielding (talk) 21:55, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
