Zerg Units

[edit]

Drone: The basic "builder" unit. Unlike the Probe and the SCV, they mutate into the buildings instead of warping or building. Drones are not able to come back once mutated into a building. Like both the SCV and the Probe, they can gather gas and minerals.

Zergling: The basic ground melee unit. When hatched, two of these come out instead of one, probably do to their small size. It is able to burrow. Out of all fighter units, Zerglings have the least queue time. Also, when fighting a Terran opponent, a horde of Zerglings can quickly kill the base before the Terran opponent starts building a solidified defense. Unable to attack air; can easily be killed by Zealots or Firebats.

Overlord: The Overlord serves three purposes in the game; similar to a Terran Supply Depot and a Protoss Pylon. Unlike Protoss and Terran, the Overlord is a unit; but it can not attack. It is also a detector unit, and an upgrade in a Zerg Lair can increase its sight range. It also has a transporting ability; this must be researched in a Zerg Lair.

Hydralisk: This is the only Zerg anti-air unit. Not only can it attack ground, but it also attacks air as well. A good Zerg stratergy is to mix Hydralisks and Zerglings when raiding an enemy outpost. Since Firebats can easily kill Zerglings, Hydras have the advantage of range and can easily dispose of them. Hydralisks are also able to burrow like the Zergling. It can also transform into a Lurker (see below)

Lurker: The only way to have a Lurker is to have it researched and evolved from a Hydralisk. Lurkers can only attack when burrowing; it is vulnerable when unburrowed. Because of this, they are usually used for base defense instead of invasion. Available in Brood War only.

Mutalisk: One of the basic air units. Mutalisks take some time to spawn but its speed makes up for it. Sadly, the Mutalisk has poor sight range and can only attack in close range. Mutalisks are usually never used in battle, but they are the best weapon for Dragoons. A group of Mutalisks attacking a group of Dragoons can easily kill them. They have the ability to transform to a Guardian Aspect (shortened for Guardians)or a Devourer.
