Old name & women's events

[edit]
  • From article, it seems Buschbaum is primarily known for his pole vaulting, which was reported under his previous name. He already had a Wikipedia article before announcing transition, so he was notable under his old name. Majority of Wikipedia articles that mention him, use his old name. Similar to Caitlyn Jenner, shouldn't the old name be mentioned within this article to prevent confusion?
  • I find it confusing that nowhere in the article it mentions that Buschbaum competed in women's pole vault. I believe that is relevant because when listing his placements, those weren't in the men's events (which given his gender, would be assumed). Looking at Jenner's article, it specifically clarifies "men's decathlon", "men's events", etc.

Thank you for the clarification, 15zulu (talk) 05:25, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think the Jenner article is a good template to use. It is respectful of her gender while conveying necessary information for the reader’s understanding of the subject (name competed under, which events).--Trystan (talk) 14:01, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Since it's been a few months and no one has raised any objections, I've added the above mentioned information. Besides this page, I also asked on Wikipedia talk:Gender identity#Athletes & old names where another user, Funcrunch, also agreed that when individual was notable under previous name, that previous name should be mentioned, as well as, clarifying remarks if needed. If there's any issues, please let me know. Thanks, 15zulu (talk) 01:04, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Strange Intro wording

[edit]

The Intro sentence reads "[Buschbaum] ...is a former German pole vaulter." This makes it sound like he is no longer German, when he has actually just retired from pole vaulting. The intent seems to have been to show that he was a pole vaulter representing Germany, but the word order is a little strange. 192.77.12.11 (talk) 11:34, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
