Confusion with national anthem
[edit]There definitely is an hymn attributed to "Rudy Villanueva/Gounod" which appears to be quite distinct from the Philippines national anthem:
- Yutang tabonon, piniling Lungsod sa Sidlakan
- Nga gihi-usa sa Kristohanong Simbahan!
- Duyog kita sa awit sa pasala-mat,
- tingog kini sa daghang katu-i-gan.
- Nga nagmaya sa kang Kristo nga pagbun-tog
- Sa mabangis nga gahum sa kangit-ngi-tan.
- I yang gahum nagpadayon pagpanalipod,
- Aron ang mahal nga tinoohan magpabilin kanunay
- Atong isangyaw ang kang Kristong pagtulon-an,
- Atong isalikway ang mabudhiong pulong.
- Diosnong magtutud-lo gimahal ang Imong su-go
- Nag-ila kami, Ginoo, sa Imong Santos nga gahurn
- Dinhi s'among yuta gihitok ang Imong Ngalan
- Among Manluluwas sa tanang katalagman.
- Ha-ri s'among Lungsod pangulohi sa giha-pon
- Magpadayon Ka pagmando sa yutang Pili-pin-hon.
This is number S55 in a song collection published by the Claretians. However, there are also claims on the net that "Yutang Tabonon" (or "Yutang Tabunon"?) is simply the Cebuano version of the Lupang Hinirang. Eg.:
- "Jess Vestil can also be remembered as the father of “Yutang Tabonon,” the Cebuano version of Lupang Hinirang he drafted when the Provincial Government of then governor Lito Osmeña sought for a translation of the country’s national anthem."[1]
The lyrics are given in this page as
- Yutang tabunon
- Mutya nga masilakon
- Putling bahandi
- Amo kang gimahal
- Mithing gisimba
- Yuta’s mga bayani
- Sa malupigon
- Padagapigan ka
- Ang mga bungtod mo ug lapyahan
- Ang langit mong bughaw
- Nagahulad sa awit, lamdag sa
- Kaliwat tang gawas
- Silaw sa adlaw ug bitoon
- Sa nasudnong bandila
- Nagatimaan nga buhion ta
- Ang atong pagkausa
- Yutang maanyag, duyan ka sa pagmahal
- Landong sa langit ang dughan mo;
- Pakatam-ison namo kon maulipon ka
- Ang kamatayon sa ngalan mo.
If both claims are correct, it seems that this article should be replaced by a disamb page, pointing to an article on Rudy Villanueva's hymn and to the Lupang Hinirang.

Source lost
[edit]This article was largely extracted from Inno e Marcia Pontificale, now renamed Pontifical Anthem That article originally claimed that
- A Cebuano version of the anthem, Yutang Tabonon (Beloved Land) came about in the late 80’s and 90’s with lyrics composed by Monsignor Rudy Villanueva. This is not a translation of either the Italian or Latin lyrics but a prayer for protection of the Filipino nation.
I had the vague recollection that this information came from the official Vatican State pages about the anthem, either the Italian version or the English version. However, I cannot find that source any more. Apart from the Claretian Song colletion, virtually all references to "Yutang Tabonon" seem to be derived from Wikipedia.
So, can anyone provide an independent reference, and/or a translation of the Cebuano lyrics above? All the best, --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 03:32, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
