Name

[edit]
Moved from User talk:Mohsen1248 for background

Maybe we should move it to Yusef Ahmed Ali if 'Ali' is also part of his name...? GiantSnowman 13:47, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I also thought about it, not a bad idea but if you check the names of other Qatari players, Ibrahim Majid, Khalfan Ibrahim, Hussein Yasser and etc, they used the first 2 parts of their names. but Yusef Ahmed is a naturalized player, His real name is something different. so I'm not really sure which one is better. also his complete new name is Yusef Ahmed M. (maybe Mohammed) Ali !! --Mohsen1248 (talk) 13:55, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Somebody added that he was born in Medina, Saudi Arabia. Do you perhaps have a source for that, Mohsen? (You just mentioned, he is a naturalized player.) --Happolati (talk) 14:37, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I still think that if FIFA names him 'Ali', then that is his official name. GiantSnowman 14:41, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, Giant. --Happolati (talk) 14:43, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I am going to move it back to 'Yusef Ali', as that is what the sources currently on the article confirm; Mohsen1248, if you are still admant to move the page, please use WP:RM. That sound fair enough to everyone? Thanks and regards, GiantSnowman 14:50, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He is a Somalian player (not sure if he born in Saudi Arabia or Somalia) but I think it's very hard to find any source for it, since the Qatari federation illegally naturalized him (as far as i know)
FIFA website isn't 100% accurate, especially for the players who didn't play in World Cup finals. AFC name him Yusef Ahmed, even his name is Yusef Ahmed in Arabic wikipedia, he wrote "Y. Ahmed" on his shirt. --Mohsen1248 (talk) 14:52, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
FIFA isn't 100% accurate at all ! check this link, for example Andres QUINTANA is Sebastian Soria or Khalfan AL KHALFAN is Khalfan Ibrahim. --Mohsen1248 (talk) 14:59, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That may be the case, but I suggest you please read WP:COMMONNAME. GiantSnowman 15:01, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
did you even see my examples ? you can move this page to Ahmed Ali when you move Sebastian Soria to Andres QUINTANA. please don't be obstinate, your source is FIFA website and I proved you that FIFA isn't accurate. --Mohsen1248 (talk) 15:07, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You have proved that FIFA makes some mistakes - no website is 100% accurate. However, English-language sources provided on the article show that he is known, in English, as 'Yusef Ali', and that is where the article should be located. GiantSnowman 15:14, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
and many English-language sources call him Yusef Ahmed, especially AFC, report of the last match. and surely AFC know Qatari players (and arabic naming system) more than FIFA. --Mohsen1248 (talk) 15:18, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
another example, Seyed RAHMATI is Mehdi Rahmati as an Iranian I know Seyed is just a title, not his given name ! but FIFA wrongly call him Seyed Rahmati and many sources just copying from FIFA ! --Mohsen1248 (talk) 15:22, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
AFC also refers to the player in question as Yusef Ali, so that, by your logic, isn't a reliable source either...GiantSnowman 15:28, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I never said AFC is 100% accurate. this article is wrote by someone who don't know this player. his complete name is Yusef Ahmed M. Ali and anyone who don't know Arabic naming system (which is really strange) can wrongly name him Yusef Ali. go to AFC website, click on Live Match Cast, then find Qatar and see Qatar's squad. --Mohsen1248 (talk) 15:37, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've seen the AFC website, and as I've said, it uses both variants of the name - who is to say which is right?! FIFA and NationFootballTeams, at least, are consisent with 'Ali' and I'm moving the article there. Should you wish to move it back, please use WP:RM. Thanks and regards, GiantSnowman 15:45, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
