Hello, a bit surprised that I am the first to start a "discussion" on this topic. Anyway, I am a clown loach freak, but discovered yoyos by accident.
Question: on this site, and in a few books (I spent the afternoon at Borders Bookstore) -- there was mention of an aggressive streak in yoyos. I have never noted this behavior. Subject to red-tail shark, bala, and rainbows; also algae eaters -- my yoyos would hide in the plants. Without such aggressors my yoyos would be all about the aquarium socializing with clowns as much as its own species. I have never seen aggressive behavior. Any loach owner knows that their curiosity might disturb sensitive fish, but aggression?
So, I am just wondering if any other yoyo enthusiasts have instances / stories of such aggressive behavior.
I have a loach that I bought when it was very small. I placed it in my 29 gallon tank along with a pleco, tiger barbs, mini puffers (soo cute and harmless), a red tailed shark, a gourami, a rainbow shark and 2 cory cats. In a time of about 6 months my loach is now 4-5 inches long and very active. His behavior I believe is on the aggressive side. He swimms up to the sharks and makes them run and hide, constantly chases the tiger barbs, and darts out around the tank scaring my other fish. The smaller tank mates are uneffected by him, like they don't exist to him. He picks on the fish that are same size or bigger (except the tiger barbs). ----Amber---- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.110.209.81 (talk) 23:33, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Botia lohachata
[edit]Yoyo loach (Botia almorhae) is a different species from Botia lohachata (Q6810544), according to FishBase, but several sources and several WP languages treat is as a synonym. The name Botia lohachata, and whether it's a synonym or not, should perhaps be mentioned in the Yoyo loach article. - Soulkeeper (talk) 19:24, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
Multiple issues
[edit]This article lacks references, and is written almost as a "how-to" keep the loaches in an aquarium. The species is constantly being compared to the clown loach, and I don't think that is necessary. I broke the one section in to different ones, but it still needs work. I was thinking about adding a "multiple issues" tag. Thanks for any improvements in advance. Ensignricky Talk 17:31, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
