Is claim of "murtad - not Muslim" WP:OR ?

[edit]

In this talk page edit, http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Younus_Shaikh&oldid=87559543 there is a statement that he is..."(This guy is a murtad - not Muslim.)" Is this true in that he, or someone suitably notable has said that he has renounced Islam and so, you know, he's apostate and you'd kill him if so inclined, or is this just WP:OR on your part ? Why can't a Muslim be critical of Islamic myths and lore or dogma without being accused of apostacy ? Thats like so pre-Reformation (or pre-Enlightenment if you missed the reformation; hey thats right you have missed it). Though traditionally rationalist and freethinker usually preclude the supernatural or unreasonable aspects of Islam this says nothing of the other ways of life revolving around Islam e.g. charity, health and dietary. I think it's up to the person themselves to state they are apostate as opposed to others interpreting this for their own purpose. WP:LIVING applies here. Ttiotsw 00:15, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't you chill out there buddy? What kind of question is "and you'd kill him if so inclined..." If I would kill him or not, what does it matter to you honestly? I said he is a murtad because someone else put him in the Former Muslims category so I assumed it was right. BhaiSaab talk 03:29, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Focusing on the content, it's a legitimate question I think given for example, this page in Wikipedia e.g. Apostasy_in_Islam, and yes it's not usually not OK to quote Wikipedia but I think it's relevant so, "...All five major schools of Islamic jurisprudence agree that a sane male apostate must be executed. A female apostate may be put to death, according to some schools, or imprisoned, according to others.". Again, focusing on the content what matters to me is irrelevant other than it's an accurate description of the subject of the article. It probably is within Pakistani law and thus the death penalty, though by many post-Enlightenment standards is inhuman, is a correct reflection of the application of the religion in this jurisdiction. You are right that I went too far in trying to identify which jurisdiction you were resident in or identified with. Ttiotsw 21:49, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Ttiotsw, "Murtad" means someone who has renounced something, in the case of Islam, a person that was a Muslim, but then chose not to follow Islam, and it is punishable by death in Islamic Shari'a, as wut history witnesses after the death of the prophet when Abu Bakr, the first Caliph, slaughtered with his armies all the Murtaddeen. --Lord Anubis 22:55, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]

Don't remove the template, its in talk space and it says nothing more that the task force is interested in this biography. --Striver 17:58, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cites

[edit]

Regarding the cites. I provided some additional cites for the section you keep insisting is uncited even though it already was cited with the Muko cite. But really. If you find a cite "untrustworthy" you need to state why you find it so. Just saying so, doesn't make it. And perhaps you should be a little more precise in what you find uncited, insted of just deleting large segments. I mean, I suppose you could take mukto-mone as a reliable cite for him being a Honorary member of Mukto Mona. Rune X2 23:02, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
