1017 Thug 2

@STATicVapor: I would agree with the other editors/IPs that 1017 Thug 2 should be included on the list of mixtapes. It may not be released by Thug himself, but it is a compilation of his songs, released by his label. It also got coverage and even an XL rating from XXL so completely omitting it from the article doesn't seem right. 2Flows (talk) 16:36, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

I disagree very strongly. The compilation mixtape was released by his almost former label (he is no long affiliated with them, but contractually signed to them), it consists of all old songs and the artist had no say in anything related to the mixtape. There is a term "official mixtape", which is applied to official mixtape releases by the artist. When random mixtapes are released every day without any contribution from the artist themself, we do not include them. The fact that 1017 had to photoshop Thug's head on Wiz Khalifa's body just to get a cover just shows how unofficial the mixtape was. I see a reason to list the Purple album or the other Gucci x Thug mixtape, at least one of the artists had any participation in its creation. STATic message me! 16:43, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Yes but it's not some random mixtape, compiled by a non-affiliated DJ - it is released by his label. In my opinion this makes it official, and even if you disagree with that, it's still notable enough to be mentioned. Having a quick look on the coverage by reliable sources, I'm pretty sure the mixtape on its own would pass WP:GNG. 2Flows (talk) 20:55, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Hey I am just giving my opinion man, no need for the hostility. Keep in mind, it is entirly unknown if he is still even signed to them and not just Asylum/Atlantic since none of his chartings or any official industry mentions have mentioned 1017, but have mentioned 300/Asylum/Atlantic. Never have I once seen a industry source such as Billboard label his releases under 1017. Even if he is no longer contracted by them, they could still release material he recorded at their studios, see all the late-year Death Row Records compilation albums that were released as full-on albums such as Dead Man Walkin'. Those are not mentioned in the artists respective articles either. STATic message me! 19:07, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
My comment was not meant to be hostile; I'm just giving my opinion as well. What you're saying makes sense, but I'd like to see what some more people think. 2Flows (talk) 10:39, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Just came off as slightly, no worries though bro.vI would definitely like to too. It is so unofficial they had to paste Young Thug's head on Wiz Khalifa's body just to get cover for the mixtape [1][2][3]. It is sad that the most coverage it got was for that 1017 blunder, and the fact that when it was released people thought he had any input on the project at all. He did not promote it, mention it, anything. STATic message me! 14:35, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
@STATicVapor: Now 1017 Thug 3 is coming out and at least Gucci Mane is definitely involved in making it, as you can hear in the intro [4]. 2Flows (talk) 17:44, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
As you can tell from that intro the song was recorded before both their collaboration mixtapes, but that does not really matter. Anyways, my point was that the artist himself (Thug), the only primary artist on the tape is having no association or part of these mixtapes. STATic message me! 20:56, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
Just see the results on Google. You should include this mixtape in the discography section.

discography

User:Weweremarshall, kindly direct me to a guideline that privileges the inclusion of retail releases over mixtape releases for presentation on the artist page (especially since the discog section is already meant to be a basic summary presenting the artist's significant releases, a shorthand to the completed '[artist's] discography' page linked to above it). Otherwise, I fail to see the logic behind leaving unrepresented the majority of Thug's most notable output released over the previous year. GentleCollapse16 (talk) 05:23, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

You answered your own question, your reasons for adding these mixtapes are opinion based, you liked them so you think they're notable. Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons you must retain a neutral point of view, Wikipedia determines noteworthy releases based on label involvement, which involves no opinion. Weweremarshall (talk) 18:59, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
"Noteable" is simply a function of the quantity of media coverage and critical write-ups they received. But your argument prompts the obvious question: how is the inclusion of retail releases and exclusion of mixtapes not itself already a POV decision? You assume retail releases are more "proper," therefore they deserve mention to the detriment of other kinds of releases? What wiki guideline justifies privileging one over the other, as you've already done? Point being, there's purely neutral way to pick which bit of an artist's output should be present, and notability seems like a better basis than the release status of a record. DOB incorrect - 1991 not 1992.

I don't know how this got changed.

There are legal documents that say 1991, so that should be the end of it. To boot, the artist himself literally says "I was born in '91" on a song from his first studio album.

Somehow, it was changed from the correct date to an incorrect date (in 1992) based on citations of a very poorly cobbled-together listicle and a biography from HotNewHipHop.com, a popular music website which makes no pretense of providing accurate information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ncurran12 (talkcontribs) 16:37, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

This change has been made a few times: Oct 1, 2015 [5], Nov 27, 2015 [6], Feb 15, 2016 [7], where none of the editors gave a source or left anything in the edit summary. The latest one [8] finally points to the HotNewHipHop site. I don't consider it reliable, either. The second source given doesn't address the birthdate at all. I've restored it using the source you provided, and added a hidden comment, hoping to prevent this in the future. Willondon (talk) 03:18, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

To be clear, Young Thug's legal name is spelled "Jeffery", not "Jeffrey" as is more common. The source cited for this misspelling gives the correct spelling. His arrest warrant provides another source here. Seeing as this misspelling is literally the very first word of the article, it would be nice if somebody could remedy this. Young Thug is slated to release a mixtape titled Jeffery shortly, so this correction should provide some context for its title.

Thank you. 69.17.188.11 (talk) 01:29, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

How can that be though? Jeffrey is a name, Jeffery is an obvious misspelling. This seems implausible. Are his parents not literate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.148.162.19 (talk) 21:51, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

This is unhelpful. His legal first name is Jeffery, spelled just like that. No need to provide your opinion about his family or the plausibility of parents naming their children as they choose. 65.88.88.192 (talk) 17:49, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Name change to NO! My Name is Jeffery

Young Thug has recently changed his stage name to NO! My Name is Jeffery. I believe it is permanent (see here) and not for a week as a recent edit stated. In the source for that edit is a rather vague quote from Young Thug stating: "I'm Jeffery for one f------ week," he said. "If I don’t sell a 100,000 copies."

Is it ideal to redirect this page to a new page titled Jeffery Lamar Williams? Thanks, Melodyschamble (talk) 20:36, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

@Willondon:, you might be interested. The source is an image stored on a website, and shouldn't be used for a BLP. I've taken to to WP:BLPN. Doug Weller talk 11:50, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

I have removed it, the WP:BLP is very clear on this.
"Exercise extreme caution in using primary sources. Do not use trial transcripts and other court records, or other public documents, to support assertions about a living person. Do not use public records that include personal details, such as date of birth, home value, traffic citations, vehicle registrations, and home or business addresses.
Where primary-source material has been discussed by a reliable secondary source, it may be acceptable to rely on it to augment the secondary source, subject to the restrictions of this policy, no original research, and the other sourcing policies."

At the end of the section '2015–16: Barter 6 and Slime Season series', the line "In early 2016, Thug released a song with Mexican rapper, Kap G." should read "In early 2016, Thug released a song with Mexican-American rapper, Kap G." This edit would be to resolve the conflict with Kap G's wikipedia page, which begins, "George Ramirez (born July 31, 1994), better known by his stage name Kap G, is an American rapper from College Park, Georgia."
