Origin

[edit]

I forgot who the person was, but I recall this guy I knew who wrestled independent circuits for some 15 years saying that Tajiri was in fact Mexican. He used to say "I've wrestled the guy and talked to him - he speaks perfect english, but he just doesnt look mexican at all." I've always wondered if this was true, but unless I get into the wrestling business and get to know Tajiri, it's a long shot. How credible does that sound? Because I'm not just typing this for shock value.

Langauge

[edit]

Is it true Yoshihiro Tajiri dosent speak a word of english? --Asososocrates 01:39, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He may not be fluent, but I'd be surprised if he could speak no English. It's a required topic of study in Japanese schools. Besides, the man worked regularly in America for years, under conditions where a translator was probably not available—immersion is said to be the best way to learn a language, so it seems unlikely that he didn't pick up at least some useful phrases. They probably just say that to emphasize his foreignness. — Gwalla | Talk 07:36, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Did he not fight with another Japense wrestler called Funaki (sp?) in the late 90's? They were a tag team, fighting mostly on Heat. Also at one stage when asked a question wasn't he dubbed to say 'indeed' in a very low voice? Thanks, Wixy.

Ah no I think you've got TAKA Michinoku in mind, he teamed with Funaki as Kaientai and did the voice over gimmick MPJ-DK 10:37, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. Thanks for that.

Brainbuser

[edit]

TAJIRI has the Brainbuster in ECW as a Finisher, but in the Independet Circut, too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.82.71.71 (talk) 21:01, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Yoshihiro Tajiri

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Yoshihiro Tajiri's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Wait, Hard Gay?

[edit]

The first sentence in the Hustle & Smash section needs clarification. As it is, it seems to refer to Shinjiro Otane as Razor Ramon Hard Gay (who is of course Sumitani Masaki). I'd take care of it myself, but I'm fairly sure I'd mess it up, as I don't know who was wrestling in that match. Brentmisato (talk) 00:18, 1 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Transliteration is backwards

[edit]

"田尻 義博" is "Tajiri Yoshihiro", not "Yoshihiro Tajiri". In the parenthetical section of the first sentence, the transliteration is flipped. I don't want to mess with the page, as wrestling is not my area of expertise, so could someone else possibly address this? Thanks! -The Old Briar Pipe (talk) 00:07, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Basic GA criteria

[edit]
  1. Well written: the prose is clear and concise.
  2. Well written: the spelling and grammar are correct.
  3. Complies with the MOS guidelines for lead sections.
  4. Complies with the MOS guidelines for article structure and layout.
  5. Complies with the MOS guidelines for words to watch (e.g., "awesome" and "stunning").
  6. Complies with the MOS guidelines for writing about fiction – not applicable.
  7. Complies with the MOS guidelines for list incorporation.
  8. Complies with the MOS guidelines for use of quotations.
  9. All statements are verifiable with inline citations provided.
  10. All inline citations are from reliable sources, etc.
  11. Contains a list of all references in accordance with the layout style guideline.
  12. No original research.
  13. No copyright violations or plagiarism.
  14. Broad in its coverage but within scope and in summary style.
  15. Neutral.
  16. Stable.
  17. Illustrated, if possible.
  18. Images are at least fair use and do not breach copyright.

As this is the oldest nomination in the GAN list, I'll have a shot at the review. I'll need some time to get my head around the subject first because it's way outside my comfort zone. I can say there is no danger of immediate failure here because there is no obvious evidence of copyvio and the article appears to be stable. Also, there is certainly an abundance of citations which is a good sign. More anon. No Great Shaker (talk) 20:24, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about sections 1.1 to 1.4

[edit]
  1. Need an explanation of the term death match as the link is to a novel article with issues.
  2. Tajiri was spotted by ECW owner Paul Heyman. Could you provide a citation there, please, as the next one doesn't seem to cover it.
  3. Tajiri's bond with Corino eventually blossomed into a relationship with Cyrus and The Network. Similarly, need a citation to confirm this statement.
  4. Need explanation of the term triple threat match which doesn't have a link.
  5. Tajiri would begin his second face run after being betrayed by a heel. Sorry, I don't understand this at all. Can it be reworded?
  6. As Judgment Day seems to be a recurring event, the year should be given.

This is all I have time for right now. Will continue tomorrow, starting at 1.5 Hustle (2006–2010). Thanks. No Great Shaker (talk) 21:30, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for doing this, I will start working on your comments tonight. MPJ-DK (talk) 22:20, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. All the best. No Great Shaker (talk) 10:29, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I have addressed all the issues brought up, please let me know if they are not sufficiently clear. MPJ-DK (talk) 16:46, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Further questions

[edit]
  1. I thought a few grammar corrections were necessary in section 1.5 but please check these haven't disrupted context or meaning, given that I know little about the sport.
  2. IWGP is used four times in 1.7 without elaboration. Please give the full title before the first use of the initials.
  3. Please explain the term hardcore match, as in Smash section.

I'll have to break off again now. Besides reviewing section 1, I've studied the broader canvas of the article and this is reflected in the pass marks applied to the criteria above. Everything is fine so far except that I just need to be sure about the overall prose, as some of the questions raised will indicate. The images are good and there are no copyvio problems. I think the scale and quality of verification are excellent. Structure is good and it's all done in summary style without unnecessary detail, although a bit more detail would help in a few places as per the questions. The lead is very good as a summary of Yoshi's career. Overall, it looks as if it just needs a bit of fine tuning and I'm confident that it will pass once I've studied the remaining sections and completed the bits below here. Will be back soon. No Great Shaker (talk) 10:29, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have addressed these 3 as well. MPJ-DK (talk) 16:47, 18 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Summary

[edit]

Thanks for answering the questions, MPJ-DK. I've got a much better understanding of the terminology now and I'm happy with the prose as it is well within the context of wrestling. I've no questions about the remaining sections. That said, everything is good, and I can happily pass the article as a GA. Well done. No Great Shaker (talk) 13:18, 19 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
