Marketing speak

[edit]

This article is informative, but parts make subjective claims and read like marketing speak. Can this be improved?

My issue with this page is that it appears to be written solely by the project staff. Much of the descriptive language is the same as on their official web page. There is no additional, 3rd perspective on the project, and no discussion of provenance or history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcpublic (talkcontribs) 18:39, 27 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Error in lead sentence?

[edit]

The lead sentence: "The Yocto Project is a Linux Foundation workgroup whose goal is to produce tools and processes that will enable the creation of Linux distributions for embedded software that are independent of the underlying architecture of the embedded software itself."

"independent of the architecture of the embedded software itself" doesn't seem to make sense in this context. From yoctoproject.org:

"The Yocto Project is an open source collaboration project that provides templates, tools and methods to help you create custom Linux-based systems for embedded products regardless of the hardware architecture."

So I think the lead sentence probably means to say "independent of the underlying HARDWARE architecture".

Poky Linux

[edit]

Should be a separate Wiki page for Poky Linux. 81.128.174.58 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 12:08, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What is a project?

[edit]

WRT "The Yocto Project is a Linux Foundation collaborative open source project whose goal is to produce tools and processes ..." makes it sound like project is an organization/group/effort, but other sources says it's the toolset. For exmaple windriver web page says "Yocto Project ...is a set of tools to develop a distribution" and google's AI says "The Yocto Project is a collection of tools that help developers create custom Linux distributions". Other use of the term throughout this article are rather ambiguous. Is the yocto project the effort to write a toolset? Or is it the toolset? Stevebroshar (talk) 18:42, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
