The allusions are not properly credited. Which Simpsons episode did Homer mention the song? What movie did Hepburn and Bogart listen to the song? 24.63.217.33 (talk) 18:23, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

it shouldn't have been reverted

[edit]

I added to the bit about Harry Chapin singing "Yes, we have no bananas" in his song, "30,000 Lbs. of Bananas". I clarified that the phrase appeared as the first of three ways he tried to end his song, and that his brother is heard to reply "Harry, it [the ending] sucks."

This was immediately reverted by a bot who claimed that I had made a malicious edit, stating that I had used the word "fuck". I didn't. I used the word "sucks" which is exactly what Harry's brother says on the record. This is a well-known interjection and has been used in a number of Chapin's works.

Please un-revert this. It was an accurate and non-malicious edit. Thanks. 204.38.194.3 (talk) 19:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FOOD & DRINK??? Am I alone in my assertion that this article has little or nothing to do with food & drink and that several recent changes have been absolute pants? Jonsilver (talk) 22:08, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spaeth version

[edit]

Does anyone have a copy of the Spaeth article in which he says what parts of the melody he attributes to what parts of the different source tunes? I've removed the attempt to reconstruct it, because it was unsourced and contained an "actually this should be..." correction, which I don't think is really acceptable. If we can source either version of this, I think it's quite interesting information; but I don't think it can stay in unsourced and with an attempted correction like that. Shouldn't the plagiarization case that Spaeth was an expert witness in be referenced in more detail? its a bit vague - I don't know anything about it, can someone else do it? 92.21.84.180 (talk) 09:40, 7 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Muppets

[edit]

Does anyone think the Muppets cover is worth a mention? Or do I just not recognize the mentioned covers as being persons regularly featured on the Muppets. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuB4Jfw5n_8 Dlamblin (talk) 15:51, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Al Jolson, First Recording, Original Lyrics

[edit]

I added Al Jolson, but don't have a definite date. I thought it premiered in Broadway review ... but reverted that. I'm trying to track the date of the first recording, and the original lyrics. Billy Jones has longest published lyrics. I don't have access to the Time article -- replaced #3 -- http://content.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,715996,00.html $4.99 ) Will changes refs to cites later. No, we have no bananas

[edit]

How about a discussion on the different way people answer questions like: "Do you not have any bananas?" many would answer: "NO we have no bananas", when the correct response is (linguistically): "YES, we have no bananas". 173.164.209.28 (talk) 19:05, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Chapin credit

[edit]

Harry Chapin used the refrain from Yes! We Have No Bananas to comedic effect in his song 30,000_Pounds_of_Bananas. FatBear1 (talk) 04:55, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
