In June 2009, the crash of Yemenia Flight 626 between Sanaa and Moroni, in the Comoros, killing 152 passengers, most of whom had departed from Marseille, put the national company under pressure and further damaged Yemen's reputation. The magnitude of the trauma for the Comorian community in France and the archipelago prompted large-scale civil mobilisation and legal investigation. Yemenia was found guilty of negligence and sentenced in 2015 by a French court to pay compensation to the victims' families.
