Notability
[edit]This article clearly qualifies as notable. Its in the politician sector WP:POLITICIAN.Racingstripes (talk) 07:28, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- WP:POLITICIAN states that only holders international, national or sub-national (statewide/provincewide) office, and members and former members of a national, state or provincial legislature and judges are notable. Holders of "elected local offices", such as the subject of this article, must meet GNG. It has not been demonstrated that the subject of this article meets GNG. Bongomatic 23:25, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
- It also states "Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage. Generally speaking, mayors are likely to meet this criterion, as are members of the main citywide government or council of a major metropolitan city." New York City is major metropolitan city, and he is a member of the council of that city.Racingstripes (talk) 05:55, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- "Likely to" doesn't mean "automatically are considered to". This individual doesn't appear to have received the required "significant press coverage". Bongomatic 06:44, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- There has been plenty of press coverage from major NYC newspapers, and other various other press outlets[1] [2] [3] [[4]] [5] [6] [7] [8] . If I understood spanish, I'm sure there are articles from El Diario.Racingstripes (talk) 08:05, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- There may indeed be plenty of press coverage from NYC newspapers, but what is required is "significant" not "copious" coverage. None of the coverage cited—and none that I identified with a good faith search—rises to the level of "significant coverage". There may be some out there, so go find it. I wasn't able to. - I don't believe that you are the authority on what defines significant coverage. In my opinion, which has just as much weight as yours, this article clearly qualifies as notable and significant coverage is clearly stated.Racingstripes (talk) 12:59, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
