Origin of the Name
[edit]What's up with the name can we get an origin on that or something? 67.33.215.149 02:45, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
- Hi there, I was raised believing "River of Death". The Yazoo River page seems to agree with that, although it's admittedly unclear. See the second paragraph and first citation. 70.162.70.214 (talk) 10:01, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Yazoo Clay
[edit]This article could use a mention of "Yazoo Clay" http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-125916252.html
"Yazoo Clay is 28% smectite (probably montmorillonite), 24% kaolinite, 22% quartz, 15% calcite, 8% illite, 2% feldspar, and 1% gypsum." http://gsa.confex.com/gsa/2004AM/finalprogram/abstract_79476.htm
"The day I encountered Yazoo clay, it was sucking down the walls of my apartment building against the best efforts of workmen furiously installing supporting colums. In fact, as a result of this ubiquitous orange colored mud-like substance, few houses in Jackson boast a second story; the tallest building jiggles precariously at twenty floors. The Yazoo clay is a perpetual bane to engineers who construct highways only to discover large cracks and bumps in them where the earth has decided to pick up and head out of this godforsaken place. Jackson has none of that dependable granite stubbornness upon which Empire States are built; caught in a double bind, it is constantly fighting the ground on which it rests and is perpetually at risk of drowning in it." http://philae.sas.upenn.edu/music/alon/downtime/talya/jackson.html —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.59.104.219 (talk) 19:41:22, August 19, 2007 (UTC)
