Station Name
[edit]I don't believe that the name of this station was ever "Yarmouthport".
All of the old timetables on this link: Cape Cod passenger railroad timetables from the past have the station name listed as just "Yarmouth".
Before I consider fixing this I would like to know what others think. FFM784 (talk) 03:41, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
My feeling at the moment is that it would be best for the stations on Cape Cod to be referred to, as almost all of them are, using the the official name as they appeared in the operating railroads timetables. FFM784 (talk) 02:54, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Pages moved including Yarmouth railway station→Yarmouth railway station (Isle of Wight). (non-admin closure) — YoungForever(talk) 21:07, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
– With stations known as "Yarmouth" in Massachusetts and England, the term has no clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC by sources or pageviews, so a disambiguation page should occupy the base name. The dab is better named in sentence case to match most of its entries. The qualifier for the Massachusetts station is chosen per WP:USSTATION and for consistency with Brewster station (Massachusetts) etc. Certes (talk) 21:02, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose. There are only 2 articles, each of which has a different title, and both of which get small numbers of views, with the dab page getting almost none.[1] The current setup seems to be working fine. We just need a {{distinguish}} hatnote, which I'll add. Station1 (talk) 21:54, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support per no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. However, looks to me like the English station also uses the name "Yarmouth Station", so maybe moving that to Yarmouth station (England) (or whatever follows railways conventions) might be wise.--Ortizesp (talk) 01:01, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
- WP:UKSTATION#Disambiguation suggests a suffix of " (England)", but that may only apply if there were other candidates for the title "Yarmouth railway station". WP:UKSTATION#Disambiguation pages discusses the dab. Certes (talk) 11:15, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support. And move the English one to Yarmouth railway station (Isle of Wight) per others in Category:Disused railway stations on the Isle of Wight. The American one is still a railway station in international terminology, even if local terminology is railroad. -- Necrothesp (talk) 17:20, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
- "(Isle of Wight)" is used to distinguish from other English stations such as Blackwater railway station and Mill Hill railway station (Lancashire), but I suppose it would avoid ambiguity with Yarmouth Vauxhall railway station. It might be best to consult WikiProject Trains before adding it. Certes (talk) 20:42, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
- Exactly. Great Yarmouth is also frequently referred to as Yarmouth and was even more commonly in the past. -- Necrothesp (talk) 22:51, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

- Support per nom. Dicklyon (talk) 05:43, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nom, there is no primary topic here. I don't have a strong opinion regarding (England) or (Isle of Wight), but I'll advertise this discussion to WT:UKRAIL where someone is likely to care. I have added Great Yarmouth as a see also to the dab page. Thryduulf (talk) 09:54, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support per nomination; like Thryduulf I'm happy to defer to others on the question of how the English article is disambiguated. Dicklyon may remember, but I think there have been several cases now where we've moved articles that were technically disambiguated at x station and x railway station, recognizing that it wasn't really enough on its own. - Support per nom. I will stick my neck out and go for Isle of Wight as the modifier. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 12:03, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Support there are (or were) four railway stations in England to which this name could apply: Great Yarmouth railway station (which has at different times been named Yarmouth Vauxhall and simply Yarmouth); Yarmouth Beach railway station; Yarmouth South Town railway station and Yarmouth railway station - this last one is the one on the Isle of Wight, strangely undisambiguated - the other three being far more important than the IoW one at any time of their respective lives. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 15:13, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
