Rename or merge
[edit]I suggest this article is renamed to an english name. I'm not sure what the most appropriate name would be - is it Yanam (French India) or French Yanam??AndrewRT(Talk) 21:16, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- There is already an article called French India. Should these be merged? Goustien (talk) 20:08, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- This article is (or appears to be) about the history of a single town (or maybe the region around it) in French India. It's hard to tell given the terrible writing whether Yanam was a principal adminstrative city or not of that area of French dominance (compared to Pondicherry, which dominated a different enclave). It should probably be called Yanam (French India) or renamed to History of Yanam and have post-independence materials added. Magic♪piano 19:43, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
Moving this article to Yanam (French India) or French Yanam seems the best idea. Merging it at all does not seem to be a good idea because it is already a decent length article which deals with a topic worthy of discussion in seaprate article. The creation of an article History of Yanam does still seem fine, but would only contain summaries of what is here, at Yanam (India) as well as other info. Munci (talk) 22:38, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
Requested move

The result of the proposal was move. Cúchullain t/c 18:41, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
– The current title of the former French colony of Yanaon is anachronistic (the colony was never known as "Yanam") and ambiguous (it looks like a city article with the comma usage rather than an article on a colony) -- cf. Coup d'état of Yanaon. The city, now at Yanam, Pondicherry, is the primary topic of "Yanam" and should be moved there. The articles already use hatnotes to help direct traffic. Relisted. - Support per nom. If the article remains at "Yanam", disambiguation should be via "(French India)" or "(French colony)". Ignorant Armies (talk) 05:32, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
