Franceville

[edit]

I am trying to track down the constitution of Franceville to verify claims about it being the first independent state with universal suffrage. You seem to be the source of most of the Franceville information. Do you know where a copy of the constitution might be? Lalli999 (talk) 22:35, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. I am heading the WPHC archives next month, in part to try to track down more on Franceville. Am anglophone so am struggling on the French documents side. In one of your early edits of the Franceville info on the Vanuatu history page you said that Franceville had been granted a charter of independence by France. I don't suppose you have a source for this? Lalli999 (talk) 04:59, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regicides of Charles I

[edit]

I noticed that you edited List of regicides of Charles I. You might be interested to know that I am working through a list of article with copy left problems (see User:Philip Baird Shearer/BCWs copyright issues). In most cases if I can find an entry in User:Magnus Manske/Dictionary of National Biography (source) I am using that to re-populate the article but we also have a OCR version of the full article on Wikisource that can be copied (copyright expired) to create a full article as has been done for example George Fleetwood (regicide) see Dictionary of National Biography, Volume 19 Page 271 (Fleetwood) or in the case of Isaac Ewer there is a full version checked on Wikisource:Ewer, Isaac (DNB00) that was used as the source.

Before I discovered this rich source of information, I found another source for the Regicides, and although it is biased against them and uses "f" for "s" it is useful as a source "The lives of the English regicides: and other commissioners of the pretended High court of justice, appointed to sit in judgement upon their sovereign, King Charles the First" Volume II, by Mark Noble (1798), page 301-305 for Robert Wallop.

Any help you could provide filling in the dots would be appreciated. -- PBS (talk) 09:40, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Middle Earth Places.

[edit]

There is already a middle earth place template. Please use this instead of the fictional country one. Please see Gondor for an example. Carl Sixsmith (talk) 07:11, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again :-) The country box does allow flags, but to my knowledge there are no original flags out there, therefore any flag added would only be either o/r fan cruft or taken from an adaptation; and as per WP:ME consensus we try to avoid specific adaptation related material exception for the adaptation section. (for example loads of movie fan boys would have us think that frodo looks like Elijah Wood). Carl Sixsmith (talk) 07:42, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I wonder how much trouble it would be to alter the ME-place template. Carl Sixsmith (talk) 11:24, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. In this discussion at WikiProject Middle-earth it was decided that we don't want too much in-universe facts in infoboxes on ME articles, so let's better represent the flags and coats of arms in the article proper. De728631 (talk) 12:22, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page
  • If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it

Wrangel Island known to Chukchi

[edit]

Not to knock A Dream in Polar Fog (of which I've only read parts) but it as a historical novel, not a work of history and so probably should not qualify as a source. Also its setting is after the 19th century landings and contemporaneous with or after Bartlet and Kakatovik's ice crossing. Incidentally, Bartlet records that Kakatovik was very aware of a tradition among his people of enmity with the coastal Chukchi, perhaps a further bit of evidence for Krauss's argument. Multimedia templates

[edit]

Thanks for your help this week with the multimedia templates such as Template:Odyssey navbox, Template:The Time Machine, and Template:One Thousand and One Nights. I need a lot more help with these templates, which seem to be up your alley. I created almost 200 of them in the last few months, which are listed at User:TonyTheTiger/creations (see multimedia works towards the bottom of my templates section). I have not carefully selected the categories. In some instances, I may have copied the formatting of a template from a drama to a comedy or one with a novel that was the source to one derived from a play. I need help going through these. I also had problems deciding whether a lot of categories should be added. If it has a variety of adaptations do we need categories for films, tv shows, operas, ballets, video games, plays, musicals, animated cartoons, sequels, etc. Similarly, most of the talk pages remain uncreated. Should we include template tags for projects such as FILM, COMEDY, NOVELS, LITERATURE, SCREENWRITING, OPERA, BALLET, THEATRE, MUSICAL THEATRE, VIDEO GAMES, ETC. I think they all should be tagged with WP:WFs tag plus a few of these.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 10:02, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Giddy.goat.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Giddy.goat.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:17, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

oceania

[edit]

I am sorry, but fail to see how Indonesia/Dutch East Indies - normally as South East Asia, can be considered in its entirity to be in Oceania? Any rationale for that inclusion? satusuro 09:37, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Neither Phillipines or Dutch East Indies in the colonial era can be considered what is the generally accepted scope of Oceania - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceania - stretching the scope to no benefit for the reader - only confusing the issue... satusuro 09:43, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
if only it was that simple. often in texts in the 1700s to even 1940s the east indies can apply to spanish, dutch, british possessions in that era and area (Dutch east indies etc...).

current specificities Oceania doesnt touch Indonesia, and confined to New Guinea at furthest... current specificities Southeast Asia contains Indonesia and Philipines

oceania is a recent term 1830s + Pacific bit older early 1600s,

oceania in the oed = islands of the pacific and adjacent seas.... I have endless arguments in the years past about whether any of the seas within Indonesia/NEI are in fact linked to the Pacific or Indian... what a time waster that was

It could be argued endlessly like the Australasian and Malay peninsula arguments of old, whether the wallace line is a better point of separation, or the international maritime organisation determinations....

For simplicity, brevity and saving time and space I would suggest that Oceania is, limited strictly, and the rest is south east asia. But it is a suggestion alone, and it seems for some it would be red rags to a bull, vast amounts of blah blah filling talk pages everywhere.... In the end, a simple oceania, would be my preference...but then, who am i to say?

I do not think dutch east indies should be included in oceania because of dutch west papua... it is a small part and imho should not be used as an excuse to add the larger entity satusuro 15:20, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Listing categories for discussion

[edit]

Hi, when you nominated the categories of Muslim communities by continent/country for discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 August 5, you tagged all the sub-category pages correctly, but did not list them at the CFD discussion page. When you nominate multiple categories, you have to (i) start the nomination with one of the categories and save the page, then (ii) edit the discussion to manually add the others.

Note that I have relisted the discussions and done this for you today at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 November 8. You may wish to comment there. – Fayenatic London 17:47, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re-creating of deleted articles and then redirecting

[edit]

I see that a number of times you have re-created an article after deletion as a result of a deletion discussion, and then immediately made it into a redirect, evidently in order to restore a copy of the deleted article to the editing history. I don't know what your purpose in doing so is, but there are at least two reasons why you shouldn't. (1) If the outcome of a deletion discussion is to delete the article (and not redirecting it while keeping the history) then that is what should happen. If you think there are good reasons why the outcome of the discussion should be overturned, then the thing to do is to take it to a deletion review, not just ignore the outcome of the discussion and unilaterally overturn it. (2) Wikipedia's licensing terms require attribution of all content, which is achieved by keeping a history list of all edits. By posting content without restoring that editing history you are violating copyright, so you must not do it. JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 12:48, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Dragonriders of Pern locations requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I know it's been almost ten years, but do you still know what you had in mind in Oz Before the Rainbow when you linked "1914" here (a reference to an apparent 1914 Oz film adaptation) to the redlink berdeen, South Dakota? I'm guessing it was intended to be Aberdeen, South Dakota (where Baum once lived), but unclear on the relationship to the film (or to what film). TJRC (talk) 21:31, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know why I tried to link to Aberdeen--probably a mistake. I've now changed the link to the 1914 film His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz. Goustien (talk) 00:13, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fonseca Island moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Fonseca Island, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Maps are not considered significant coverage that indicates notability - what we need is prose coverage.

I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ♠PMC(talk) 08:09, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! In 2008 you added a note to Goust that said that they have a funeral custom of transporting coffins by chute, a claim that was later added to Chute (gravity) by another editor. This seems ridiculous, and it's been unsourced for fifteen years. Do you have a source that can back that up? If so, please do add it to the page! 185.37.136.73 (talk) 19:52, 22 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Mare Nostrum (2016 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. Minor awards

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
