Error Identified in Photograph
Hello! Very new to the Wikipedia editing experience, so apologies in advance for formatting errors, etc.
I have stumbled upon an error on this page and have no idea how to address it. The error concerns the photo titled: "Four African-American students, class of 1921." It seems Yale has misidentified one of the individuals in the photograph as Mifflin Gibbs, a man who died 7 years BEFORE the photo in question was taken. Like I said, new to Wikipedia and thus have no idea how to go about addressing this. 98.145.187.214 (talk) 04:10, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for pointing it out - do you know who the person in the photograph is, and have a reference? (I couldn't get the image at the Yale library to load) - could the Mifflin Gibbs in our article be a different person but with the same name? (Yes, it's obviously not that person in the article). Maybe removing the link is sufficient. Antandrus (talk) 04:41, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- Apologies for the delay. (Though notice the existence of a username, so some progress is being made!) I went ahead an removed the link from the image's Commons page. Tried looking through the Yale archives for alumni records which mention a Mifflin Gibbs: no dice, at least nothing digital. Despite seeming unlikely in my view, maybe the second name is possible? Here's a working link to the photograph if you want to dive in more: https://collections.library.yale.edu/catalog/10014744
- Completely unrelated — not sure if it fits here — but just wanted to mention that I'm absolutely awestruck by your contributions over the years. It seems the further I delve into the Wikipedian community, the further flabbergasted by all the amazing people—laboring anonymously—who have joined together to create what is arguably the greatest sum total of human knowledge ever to exist.
