Death date
[edit]Multiple sources (all in English) say he died in 1996, although I can't find a month/day for the supposed 1996 death.
However, multiple Russian sources, including the various plaques that commemorate Novichenko, mark his death date as 8 December 1994.
Imo it's pretty convincing to me that monuments that were made of him have an accurate death date; I've yet to see or think of any reason why they would lie about it.
Think the English sources just made a mistake somewhere, and the mistake keeps making the rounds via citations. I've noticed that there's heavy overlap with information about Novichenko in English. toobigtokale (talk) 08:11, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
Copyright-free photos
[edit]Fyi I've yet to find a photo of Novichenko that's unambiguously copyright-free. The Russian article uses a cropped photo of him under a non-free license, although I've seen that full photo of him for sale on a Russian website. toobigtokale (talk) 18:10, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
Did he lose his arm or hand?
[edit]I've seen various Korean and English sources say he either lost his arm or hand. I'm guessing this is because the word "руки" in Russian can refer to either. Maybe he lost his hand and then his arm. Unclear...
I decided to go with "hand" to be conservative. In a 1991 JoongAng Ilbo source that interviewed alleged eyewitnesses, a Korean eyewitness specifically says he lost his hand (손) in the initial blast, but a Soviet eyewitness (translated into Korean) says he lost his arm (팔). Maybe the Soviet interview was not translated correctly; not sure.
Edit: One of my guesses was partially right; he lost his hand and then got amputated at the elbow. toobigtokale (talk) 20:07, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
Reliability
[edit]Hi @Emiya1980, saw the tag, what can we solve here? toobigtokale (talk) 00:34, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
