Yagneshwara (avatar) → Yagya (avatar)
- Per WP:COMMONNAME: Major texts backed by secondary references (see article for details) including Mani (quoting Vishnu Purana, Bhagavata and Devi Bhagavata Purna), Bhagavata Purana, M.M.Ninan quoting Garuda Purana and Bhagavata Purana call him यज्ञ Anglicized as Yagya/Yajna. Redtigerxyz Talk 18:28, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose on the whole. The form Yajneshwara, with the addition Ishwara "Lord", exists because Yagya, Yagna, Yajna are ambiguous between the sacrifice and its presiding spirit; we have articles on both. We could indeed disambiguate them with parens, as the nom suggests; but it is preferable to use an actually attested term. Move, therefore, to Yajneshwara or merge. - Most Hindu scriptures as well as secondary references quoted aboe use Yagya/Yajna, and not Yagneshwara/Yajneshwara. Hinduism has many similar terms like Agni (that stands for fire as well as its deity), Prithvi (earth), Vayu (wind), Surya (Sun) etc.; however the concept of Yagya/Yajna's (fire-sacrifice) association with Vishnu as an avatar is more of a Vaishnava one, others also associate Yajna with Agni too. About the merge: The section on Yagya (avatar) was put in Yagya first about a year or so ago, but was removed as it was considered essentially a Vaishnava POV. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:06, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
- Well, yes, that's because we have an article on Fire, not on agni; and so on. It so happens that we have an article both on the sacrifice (for which there is no native English word) and on the eponymous divinity; but they can be merged, which should resolve any sectarian difficulties. - I created the this article after the section I wrote on Yagya (avatar) was removed from Yagya article. Another problem is that Yagya (avatar) is also a character in Hindu mythology and should have its own article. --Redtigerxyz Talk 04:06, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

- There seems no reason not to use the common name here; if that's Yagya, then the article should be titled as proposed. If it's Yag/jneshwara, then there's no need for the "(avatar)" in the title. --Kotniski (talk) 10:22, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Yagya (avatar) → Yajna (avatar) – Since Yajna is moved back from Yagya (Talk:Yajna#Requested_move_2), this article also needs to be moved to Yajna spelling. Redtigerxyz Talk 09:57, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
