Yadu and Yadav

[edit]

Yadu is the name of a person not a tribe, and Yadu is never called Yadav, because Yadav means descendants of yadu. Krishna was called Yadav, Madhav, Gopala, Govinda etc. If it is a disambiguation page for Yadav, yadu should be removed, or sustituted with Krishna. Ikon No-Blast 10:17, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed Yadu from the listing, the page yadu, itself needs a lot of correction which is full of wild claims of several communities. Ikon No-Blast 10:21, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This page was moved by user:history_sleuth, who is the sock of permabanned user:internet_scholar, should be restored to the older page, disambiguation not required at all. Ikon No-Blast 02:20, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your edits to the Yadav disambiguation page are perplexing and do not conform with guidelines for disambiguation pages. 1) It does not seem appropriate to include Krishna on the page as nothing in that article gives any indication that Krishna is commonly known as "Yadav" or that there is any likelihood of confusion. 2) entries on disambiguation pages should (with only rare exceptions) have exactly one navigable blue link. The entry for Yadav caste should not also include the link for Yadu. 3) as for the text of the entries, that can be adjusted as appropriate, but nothing in the entries you keep reverting is not supported by the linked articles, so I'm not sure what the issue is. olderwiser 02:24, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I think neither of the pages, yadu and Krishna should be there as Yadu can never be confused as Yadav, because he was never called so. As far as krishna being called Yadav is concerned You should read Bhgwad Gita, or mahabharata, where he has been referred as Yadav, madhav, several times. A person redaing them is more likely to search who is Yadav. Like you read a verse of Gita and wanted to know who is Yadav, because it adresses him simply as He Yadav, at many places. same is not true with Yadu. So you're saying that Yadu, which appears to be the derivation for Yadav should not be listed on this page? That seems odd. Perhaps it should not be the first entry, but certainly in a see also section. As for Krishna, disambiguation pages should only reflect content of the linked articles and not introduce new information. If Krishna is commonly known as "Yadav", that information should be sourced and included in that article. olderwiser 02:38, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yadu is not the derivation of yadav, He is just the person whose descandants are called yadav. See

descandants of Yadu - Yadav, but yadu is not yadav, descandants of Madhhu - Madhav, but madhu is not Madhav. it would be absurd to say so. Ikon No-Blast 02:42, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would say it's absurd not to consider them as closely related and likely to be confused and confusing to readers not familiar with the subjects. olderwiser 02:45, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
