In 2001, Xu Jing reported that during the 1960 Everest expedition he had found the frozen body of a climber at or near the crest of the Northeast Ridge at c. 8400 m. Given the time and location of the find, the body was likely that of Andrew Irvine, who had disappeared together with George Mallory during a summit bid in 1924. Xu's discovery was apparently known to a few expedition colleagues, as in 1965 Wang Fuzhou told the audience of a lecture in St. Petersburg that they had found the body of a European at c. 8600 m (sic). 82.56.45.246 (talk) 11:42, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
