It was really interested in having different categories and the amount of writing and structure were well organized.

It would have been better there were more topics including other cultural aspect and how the residents relate to the area.

Links would have been better if it was translated in English (even just for the title) and adding citations for the numbers will increase credibility of the reading.

Questions

[edit]

Thanks for the detailed introduction about Xi'an Muslim Quarter, which helps me know more about Xi'an. I have a question about the sentence, "During the time of the People's Republic of China, the Middle Mosque and the West Mosque were built in 1919 and 1920, respectively, which further developed the quarter into a "Nine Mosques" pattern. " : In my idea, the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, so I am confused about this sentence. Does it mean the Republic of China?

Observations and suggestions for improvements

[edit]

The following observations and suggestions for improvements were collected, following expert review of the article within the Science, Tecnology, Society and Wikipedia course at the Politecnico di Milano, in June 2020.

The article presents an introductory section that is not sufficiently precise in reference to the complexity of the topic, as can be seen by navigating the items referred to in the text or in wikipedia itself. As an example we can cite the case of the number of mosques present in the neighborhood (10, 9 or 12, or 7 as indicated in the entry Xi'an?). The identification of the neighborhood through the streets (check the names, please) or the monuments of greater importance is also lacking. In particular, one of these, the Bell Tower was moved precisely in the morphological consolidation phase of the neighborhood. To overcome the risk of geographical uncertainty, the use of a map would be preferable. Even the location of the district within the fortified circle of Xi'an does not justify the use of generic data on tourism mobility. In general, bibliographical references do not appear adequate to favor correct interpretations of the complex multicultural conditions that determined the history of the neighborhood. Some statements attributed to an essay by Ma, not univocally identifiable, also appear tendentious. The only references to the morphological and typological characteristics of the neighborhood refer to the presence of mosques, the sizes of the streets, the igienic conditions : all of these data being insufficient to understand the consistency and spatial quality of the neighborhood. As for the language adopted, it is advisable to eliminate all adjectives that indicate subjectives (e.g. delicious, sticky) appreciation of the culinary qualities of traditional neighborhood foods, since an encycloperdic item must be limited to representing objective data, which in the case of gastronomy have to do, per example, with ingredients and methods of preparation.
