Xanthoconium is not supported by DNA evidence

This is not correct. Check Nuhn et al 2013 [2]. Xanthoconium is supported as distinct from Boletus. Some notes, the stipe is describe as smooth by Singer, but Wolfe says some stipes have a very fine reticulum, especially at apex of stipe.
