[edit]Someone with decent writing skills ought to rewrite this thing. I deleted some of the worst of it. --Xyzzyplugh 14:10, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
The Romantic Relationships section is none too good. I'm removing some of the links to women he didn't actually have romantic relationships with. --Xyzzyplugh 18:36, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Other Xanders
[edit]This article should be about Xander as a name, not just about a TV character who has it as a first name. Is the Wikipedia article [Homer] just about Homer Simpson? No, it isnt. This should be remedied. Another article should be made about this TV character. 68.160.164.128 22:26, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- This article is about the tv character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you wish to create a page about Xander as a christian name then please do so at the original Xander page so that it doesn't redirect to this one.--NeilEvans 22:56, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
What's in a name?
[edit]He is obviously named after the founder of the Church of Satan, Anton Szandor LaVey. Does anybody know what Josh Whedon meant by that? I've seen much of Whedon's work but his philosophy puzzles me as much as Iron Maiden's lyrics, but maybe I'm looking for meaning where there is none?
- Well, his first names are Alexander (abbreviated to Xander) LaVelle. 'Szandor' and 'Xander' are pretty much the same name, and the similarity between 'LaVelle' and 'LaVey' is almost as obvious.
- If you're asking why Joss chose that name - well, why not? Buffy is full of references to pop-culture, mythology and history, so what's one more reference?
He's listed under fictional eyepatch wearers. Is that too much of a spoiler?
[edit]I was actually the one to put him in that category, but I'm thinking it might be too much of a spoiler to do so. I'unno, what do you think?
- I don't think it's too much of a spoiler, but since in the majority of the series he does not wear an eyepatch and he only gets it near the end, I don't think he should be listed. Should probably let some others weigh in before you (/if you decide to) change it though. --Gero 20:56, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think that as he only had a patch in the last few episodes then he shouldn't be included. If he was notable for wearing one then, yes add him, but he's not.--NeilEvans 20:58, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Pictures
[edit]There's only one (blurry) picture on this page, that's not enough. Can't somebody get the cover to Buffy #2, that's a cool picture of Xander. Also, what about some shots of him as miltary guy from the new comic. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.158.46.119 (talk) 07:48, 16 May 2007 (UTC).
Fair use rationale for Image:Xandermain.jpg
[edit]Image:Xandermain.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Picture Choice
[edit]Why is the picture of Xander Harris uses on the page one where he has an eyepatch? This only serves to spoil the plot of Seventh-Season episodes of Buffy. Couldn't we use a picture of a two-eyed Xander instead? Nedlum (talk) 08:37, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I agree. (But what pictures we're allowed to use always confuses me, so if someone else could do it that would be great.) Perhaps there could be a picture of eyepatch!Xander later on in the article? Its a lie lah (talk) 06:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- The picture serves as Xander is seen today. The eyepatch also makes him more noticeable; there's no doubt how Xander is known in the net today, even for those who've never seen the series.--The Scourge (talk) 03:44, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Birth year
[edit]I'm wondering about the accuracy of 1981 as his birth year. There's no citation for this. We know he's at least as old as Buffy because the day after her 17th birthday, he mentions that he is 17 (episode title: Innocence). Since she's born in January 1981, it's really more likely he was born in 1980. At any rate, the year should probably be given as 1980 or 1981.

Portrayal?
[edit]If we're not going to have Riff Regan or Adam Busch listed for Willow, Eliza listed for Buffy or Sarah for Faith, I think it appropriate to take Kelly Donovan out of the infobox. I'm being bold and doing it. If someone wants it back, please integrate it into the text of the article, rather than the infobox. Jclemens (talk) 20:26, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- I see this made its way back in to the infobox, and was just removed by an anon. I'm about to fix the formatting error the anon introduced, but since your comment's the only discussion of the issue I see I'll support your boldness in leaving Kelly out. Image copyright problem with Image:Longwaycover03.jpg
[edit]The image Image:Longwaycover03.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Relationships
[edit]I deleted the "Relationships" to reflect the preeminent Buffy character articles by Wikipedia's standards (crafted by editors much better than I) among them Cordelia Chase, Buffy Summers and Dawn Summers. The section was in clear violation of WP:OR and WP:IU and I stand by this edit. The rest of the article still needs a lot of work. kingdom2 (talk) 18:31, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Phone sex operator?
[edit]In the Season 4 summary of Xander's activities it lists him as a phone sex operator. I do not believe that he ever held such a job. If it is not true it should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Charlyhearts (talk • contribs) 00:41, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- One line in "The Yoko Factor": I'm the one working hard to earn a living and it's a huge joke to them. "Xander got fired from Starbucks." "Xander got fired from the phone sex place…" —Tamfang (talk) 23:32, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
Brendon afterward
[edit]Nicholas Brendon's experiences after Chosen are relevant to his article, obviously, but I don't see that they're at all relevant here. —Tamfang (talk) 05:19, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Lead image
[edit]I strongly feel the lead image needs to be changed. Xander has an eyepatch for so little amount of time in the series that it's not representative of his common appearance. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 00:21, 12 March 2014 (UTC)
I agree. It's also a spoiler. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.93.72.41 (talk) 23:52, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
Incorrect thumbnail
[edit]It appears that the thumbnail you see when searching for "Xander Harris", as well as the main photo on mobile, shows the actor Kelly Donovan instead of Nicholas Brendon. Donovan is the twin brother and sometimes stunt double of Brendon. Shouldn't Nicholas Brendon be the main photo? PUNKMINKIS (CHAT) 20:19, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
