855/997

[edit]

what is the difference between EDI X12 855(POA) and EDI X12 997(FA)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.2.16.231 (talkcontribs) 14:37, August 6, 2008

Wikipedia is not a textbook, but the 997 is a functional acknowledgment, a generic receipt, if you will, which means that the receiver got the inbound doc. It does not mean the the receiver considers it valid or not, it just means that they got it. It is customary that all EDI X12 docs are replied to with an 997/FA. The 855 is a PO acknowledgment, which is a specific reply to an inbound PO, which may tell the sender that the PO is or isn't valid, and that certain product ordered may be out of stock, etc. --rogerd (talk) 19:38, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
