Interpretation

[edit]

Hi, I am a German, and I cannot find any interpretation what the song text means. There are several translations available, but I think that native speakers only can see clearly here. I think adding an interpretation of the song text may be a good idea. It begins with the cat, John 1:1. Does "cat" stands for something else that cat, for example? And so on.. "Cat" is just another word for "guy, man, person", as is "bloke". "Cat" goes back to the jazz days of the early 20th Century, it's been used as slang by lots of generations since.
The first verse is the story mentioned in the article about builders keeping him awake, the second verse isn't really about anything as far as I can tell, except that the Captain likes girls with no clothes on, like lots of people. The song isn't really about very much.

Interpretation

[edit]

In https://deependsongs.wordpress.com/2016/08/30/wot-captain-sensible-1982/ there is an Interpretation.

"The Captain is singing about being disturbed by construction workers outside his flat, but then the lyrics become vague and lacking a narrative. But, it doesn’t matter. "

Who's Adam?

[edit]

Who is the Adam mentioned in the song who's a "dirty old pirate"? Could it refer to the band Adam and the Ants, and his mode of dress? 64.62.19.90 (talk) 14:05, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
