[edit]How do I add images of an actual US Army medal? I tried the photo loader and can't make it work. Please help. I have photos of my great grandfather's medal front and back I'd like to post. The scan image displayed on the site is incomplete. Thank you. Bree25 (talk) 17:51, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
- Bree there are both obverse and reverse images available on Commons, you can find them here [1]. If you are able to take better quality pictures than those available I would encourage you to add them there. However, the usage of the line drawing of the medal is often the clearest at showing the details of the design. Cheers. EricSerge (talk) 19:46, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
- Eric, Thank you for your reply. I looked at the images and most of them are not for the US Army. They are instead for the US Navy. The US Army has a longer ribbon and attached the bars for each battle or campaign the soldier participated in. There are no examples of the clasps or bars on the commons pages. All examples are missing clasps or never had them to begin with. The line art drawing is missing clasps and not a good example of what it looked like in real life. If you look at it you will see there zero clasps so it is not a good example of what was sent to the soldiers. The medal that belonged my Great Grandfather has five clasps with double names on four of the clasps. There is no line art available for the back view of this medal. The back is highly detailed and very beautiful. I uploaded images of the medal front and back plus the box it was shipped in, but there was no category for WW I Victory Medal so I put them in WWI, WW1, WW I, Medals, WWI Medals and places like that. I didn't know where else to store them. Now that they are uploaded I have no idea how to put them onto the WW I Victory Medal page. 75.58.224.103 (talk) 19:38, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Design of the medal
[edit]The section on the Design of the medal has the following description for the reverse side "The top of the staff has a round ball on top and is winged on the side. The staff is on top of a shield" and the image associated shows a fasces, not a staff. Should this be changed? or is there reason to believe that the designers intended the image to depict a 'staff'? 2603:9008:1501:33F1:5473:9C6E:AB9A:44F4 (talk) 07:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
