Home-made wool
[edit]Has anyone tried making their own wool insulation? We have numerous fleece from Arapawa sheep (a rare, feral breed) and I would like to make either batts or felt. I'm sure I can find a book on how to felt, but cannot locate anything on insulating products. I imagine I could try felting it .... 222.154.38.77 23:24, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Jacky, New Zealand
The companies providing it now had to start somewhere...it looks simple enough to start doing it yourself. Good luck!
Pic exchange
[edit]I exchanged a pic after I added examples of each of the three mineral wools from Commons. I thought at first that the first pic was rockwool, but when I took a closer look, I wasn't so sure after all. Perhaps the submittor can identify it and re-insert it? --Achim (talk) 03:23, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit]This page is about sheep wool insulation, NOT mineral wool or any other kind of insulation. Please do not put any more pictures of anything other than sheep wool on this page. There are several other pages dedicated to other insulation products where pictures of rockwool, fiberglass, etc. belong. Thanks Shadokat (talk) 04:23, 7 April 2008 (UTC).

[edit]I agree. The subject I have no quarrel with, but this was not the tone that I look for in an encyclopedia, and certainly not in wiki. Also, some of the statements of alleged fact were decidedly questionable. Just for one example, the idea that wool is non-allergenic because its particles are not respirable is misleading to put it politely. For a start, the most allergenic particles are from the surface of the hair and some of them are submicroscopic; thoroughly respirable as well as allergenic on skin.
