This is pure speculation on the part of C. T. Goode of Hull, the author of "Huddersfield Branch Lines" (1993), and isn't supported by any contemporary accounts. Locals would have been much more familiar with the place name "Dungeon" (given to the general area and also the large wood in which the station stood) than "Woodfield" (the name of a nearby private property owned by the Shaw family). There is much erroneous information about Woodfield Station on the internet and I don't think Wikipedia should be adding to it. Davepattern (talk) 08:59, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Originally it had been intended to name the station ''Dungeon Wood'' after the wood it was sited in.
