New section unreferenced
[edit]Hi Kiwichris (talk · contribs), the section you have added is entirely unreferenced - can you add citations to reliable sources to maintain the integrity of the article? Thanks, MurielMary (talk) 21:36, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Time to add Jacinda Ardern?
[edit]Ms Ardern extends the story told in the Gallery of prominent women in New Zealand.

-- Perhaps more significant to note that Helen Clark was the first elected PM (unlike Shipley, who took on the role mid-term).
I simply added simple copyedits to this article. The information was good, so I am nominating
[edit]this for good article status. Sources which this article needed were mostly found on discussed subjects's wiki pages. How no one else had thought to do this seems quite unfortunate, yet I am more than glad to have done this myself. BarntToust (talk) 19:55, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
Chinese women
[edit]Chinese women, including those born in New Zealand, did not get the vote until 1952. https://teara.govt.nz/en/ethnic-inequalities/page-3
This was completely ignored during the Centenary and is still being ignored in this entry. Given the moves to redress anti-Chinese laws including the Poll Tax, shouldn't this racial discrimination be recognised in this forum? 114.23.162.174 (talk) 06:29, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- The reprehensible ban on Chinese people becoming naturalised citizens and voting applied to both men and women, and is properly dealt with at History of voting in New Zealand, although the single sentence could do with expansion, and it could be added to the third paragraph of the lead in that article too. Could Chinese people vote in NZ prior to 1908? Te Ara says they "were not able to vote ... until 1952" but our History of voting article says "the Chinese were not allowed to vote from 1908 to 1952". If our article is wrong it should be corrected. If Chinese people could vote before 1908, presumably Chinese women could vote from 1893 to 1908, and the only relevance to this article is that they were disenfranchised along with Chinese men from 1908 to 1952. If they could not vote at all until 1952, then this article should certainly mention that. Do you have a source which clarifies this?-Gadfium (talk) 06:52, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
