Useless article

[edit]

Thanks to User:Guliolopez who valiantly tried to improve this article before realising it was all a waste of time. The fundamental problem is that this is just an inappropriate topic. In addition the article contains almost nothing useful. Indeed just about the only thing it says is that "Garvey was the first Irish woman to win the British Ladies Amateur competition." which is complete rubbish. For some reason there's someone out there who wants to keep this, although why is a complete mystery to me. If there was a vote for the worst article in Wikipedia, this would be my choice. Merge

[edit]
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was consensus to merge content (to Golf in Ireland#Notable golfers) and redirect title (to Golf in Ireland#Formation of amateur organisations). Now both done. Guliolopez (talk) 15:33, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unless there are other thoughts, I plan (relatively boldly and relatively quickly) to merge the very limited content we have here (which is ALL about one individual mid-20th century golfer) to Golf in Ireland#Notable golfers (where other notable Irish golfers are covered). And to redirect the title to Golf in Ireland#Formation of amateur organisations (where the formation of the women's game/association is covered). Otherwise, as above, this article is all but useless. And meets all the WP:MERGEREASONs. Including "very short and unlikely to be expanded". (In that it has contained little more than a single sentence for a decade.) Agree, although there is no content to merge (other than adding Philomena Garvey to the list), and a redirect to the main article would be better since converage of women's golf begins in the lead of Golf in Ireland. This article was deleted via PROD and later restored following an inexplicable (if they had knowledge of the content) request for undeletion. wjematherplease leave a message... 08:55, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agree too. Hopefully we won't be adding the "fact" that Garvey was the first Irish winner of the British Ladies Amateur, when Irish women had won it 6 times previously! Nigej (talk) 09:24, 16 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Resolved. OK. Thanks all. Based on the above input/consensus, I've gone ahead with the merge and redirect. Closing thread. Guliolopez (talk) 15:33, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
