[edit]When Wolter invented his X-ray telescopes, the invention was rather theoretical, because the manufacturing techniques for surfaces of the required precision (and polish) did not exist, and because high-frequency X-rays get absorbed in the earth's atmosphere. Both obstacles were overcome around 1975 (launch of the first Wolter telescope satellite), not long before Wolter's death. An early Wolter telescope (probably not functional) can be found in the Roentgen-Museum in Remscheid/Germany. [Source: Wolter was my supervisor.] Puddington (talk) 20:45, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
