Surname - Sartorius or Waltershausen

[edit]

It seems to me that von Waltershausen is a part of a title, Freiherr von Waltershausen, and that this person's surname should be "Sartorius" or "Sartorious von Waltershausen", or "Sartorious, Baron von Waltershausen", and he should be referred to as "Sartorius" rather than "Waltershausen". The last name of the family was Sartorius but the father was enobled with the name Georg Sartorius Freiherr von Waltershausen. The last name for the article should either Sartorius von Waltershauen or von Waltershausen or possibly Waltershausen but not Sartorius.--CSvBibra (talk) 16:23, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Sartorius" (English = tailor) is definitely part of the surname, "Freiherr von Waltershausen" is additional by nobilitation. In some articles we find "Sartorius" as a second given name, I have corrected this in the Gauss article. --Dioskorides (talk) 00:25, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
