name
[edit]How on earth do you pronounce his name? The C of E (talk) 14:55, 21 September 2009 (UTC)
- Using the IPA translator it sounds like Klingon!--Goonerak (talk) 20:50, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- It's pronounced Sh-chen-sny (with y like the 'e' in roses). Sz and cz correspond more or less to English sh and ch so just pretend the z's are h. As for ę, the ogonek ('little tail') just means the vowel is kind of nasal. Finally, 's' is always like in silk - in other words, the English tendency to turn 's' into 'z' does not exist in Polish. Vmeruck (talk) 03:46, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
The last name is correct, but the first name pronunciation is wrong. it does not sound like voy-czech, but rather voy-cyeah (I'm Polish) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.191.108.81 (talk) 12:25, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
- Well… the 'ch' would be pronounced like [x], i.e. like kh sound in Khabarovsk or in Bach. I'm not Polish, but there is a difference between [h] and [x].--Paracel63 (talk) 22:42, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
70.161.84.161's edit explained
[edit]I think I can explain why 70.161.84.161 did the edit he did. I believe his reasoning is that Szczesney was photographed here wearing a no. 26 training shirt. Although I'm not sure if this has been confirmed by Arsenal that he has changed numbers. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 13:00, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for bringing that link up. However, I don't think it can be taken as a way of confirming Arsenal's shirt numbers and the source in current use on the Arsenal article should probably be given higher standing. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 13:15, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Arms
[edit]One thing I've noticed is that this page is missing is the fact he once broke both his arms in that freak training accident. There's 2 pages about it on this search. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 13:27, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

2014 FA Cup medal
[edit]Believe the FA gives the winners 30 medals to hand out to anyone they see fit and their website says 'In addition to the FA Cup, The Association shall present 30 medals to playing staff and officials of both Clubs in the Final.' (In a PDF so can't copy a ref address - Google 'Who gets an FA Cup medal'). As a sub he would have got one?--Egghead06 (talk) 22:10, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- I guess it depends on how Arsenal as a club handles it. I personally would have given it to those playing in the cup and in the first few rounds there were lots of academy players and U-21 players playing. Arsenal have used at least 25 players on the field so perhaps the Polish goalie won't get a medal. QED237 (talk) 22:27, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Who knows? He did go up to get the cup and was on the open-top bus parade and in the celebrations on the pitch. All this and no medal? .....--Egghead06 (talk) 22:50, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
