Removal of Nazi is a translation issue, not censorship
[edit]I think the current section on "censorship" gives a false impression. The original uses "Nazi-like" in a way that is often used in the English language (esp. in the US), meaning "authoritarian", "very strict", "no-nonsense" etc. In other words, it is used in a non-literal way (the mother is not actually considered a Nazi). Another example would be Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi". In German, this meaning does not exist for the word Nazi. If someone is called a Nazi in German that means he is someone supporting the ideology of Hitler's party. So there had to be a translation removing the Nazi part to remain intelligible to the audience. Calling the mother a Nazi in German would have made no sense at all. (Consequently, "Heil" had to be clipped, as well.) The translation they did come up with doesn't really mirror the original's intent, but that's another issue. The German dubbing of Buffy has many problems translating the language and pop culture references, this is just one in a long list. Censorship has nothing to do with it. If you want to create a list of differing, strange or plain false translations in the German version of Buffy, you could make a book from it. In a nutshell, this "incident" isn't notable. I also highly doubt that Nazi references are "routinely removed" from German translations, but I can't prove that. Maybe all those used in the same way as above. The German airing of Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi" most likely didn't contain the word Nazi for the same reason. 134.130.4.46 11:37, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Buffy103.jpg
[edit]Image:Buffy103.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
