"Often called 'Maine's Prettiest Village'" --by whom? Sounds pov-ish, and it, and a few other things, need sources (a common problem with Maine town articles). On the whole, though, it's a very good Maine town article. JamesofMaine 21:14, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Who calls it that? Why, Wiscasset itself does. When entering the town (from Rt.1) you can't miss the sign proclaiming Wiscasset the "Prettiest Village in Maine". Been there as long as I can recall (30+ years)...although I do recall some pranksters 'whiting out' the R one year (making it Pettiest Village in Maine) ;-) Greg

[edit]is there really a need for the "(town)"? can't this be moved to Wiscasset, Maine where most things point to, anyway?
Fair use rationale for Image:Wiscasset, ME Seal.jpg
[edit]Image:Wiscasset, ME Seal.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Residents / Birthplace?
[edit]Juliana Hatfield was born in Wiscasset, but all references seem to reveal that she has nothing to do with the place besides being born there. That said, is it appropriate to list her under "Residents"? Obviously it seems to be wrong, but I don't know if it's Wikipedia practice to include those who were born in a place under Residents. Proposed move
[edit]In the absence of any other place called Wiscasset, Maine, I propose that this page be moved to Wiscasset, Maine per WP:Naming conventions. — Lincolnite (talk) 22:36, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- Comment Note that the densely populated town center is listed as a census-designated place (see Wiscasset (CDP), Maine). But I agree with you that the town should take precedence over the CDP and is the primary meaning of "Wiscasset, Maine". --Polaron | Talk 22:48, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with Polaron. --Serge (talk) 03:58, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- Done. Seems quite uncontroversial—to the point that I think this probably could have been listed at the uncontroversial moves section at WP:RM.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 10:01, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Undue detail?
[edit]The books by Van Reid may be notable in themselves, but the amount of detail about them here seems disproportionate. In fact, it makes me wonder (without a basis in hard fact) if it's self-promotion. Dgndenver (talk) 18:33, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
