The articles:Winscombe, Sandford, and Winscombe and Sandford
[edit]It would be helpful if someone would read through the articles on Winscombe, Sandford and this article on Winscombe and Sandford with a view to consolidating them. At the moment they contain some "facts" that disagree with each other.
Firstly, Winscombe is described as a large village and Winscombe and Sandford is an episcopal parish. Is Winscombe or Winscombe and Sandford the name of the civil parish within North Somerset (post 1996)? What was the name of the parish within the Axbridge Rural District before 1974?
A OS map of Somerset of 1900 [1] shows the parish of Winscombe to be an unusual shape as if the Sandford portion to the north was added on at some date in the 19th century. However, according to the map, at 1900 the two places were definitely in one parish within the Axbridge Rural District. But the Wikipedia article on Winscombe and Sandford states they were located in Long Ashton Rural District and Portishead Urban District. Your reference [2] does not list either Sandford or Winscombe as a parish within Long Ashton RD.
A third point, and one I accept is trivial: surely in the the 21st century we should speak of a "Chappel of ease" as a "chapel of ease", possibly with a definition of the term?
