Copied fleet roster

[edit]

All-Time Fleet Roster removed from Wikipedia page. It was stolen wholesale from another website and its presence on Wikipedia is a Copyright violation. -dawwpg

It has been restored for now; please provide a link to the site so that we can confirm this. Thanks. --Ckatzchatspy 06:21, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It has been copied from http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~wyatt/alltime/winnipeg-roster.html. Do not restore it again. -dawwpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dawwpg (talkcontribs)
Thank you for responding. For future reference, you would get a better response if you provide the proper information at the time the material is removed, and if you avoided the use of unnecessarily confrontational phrasing such as "do not restore it again". While your concerns are appreciated, you have to understand that - in the absence of anything to confirm the claim - we cannot just let a large-scale deletion go unquestioned. --Ckatzchatspy 03:30, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An anonymous user-editor restored the content that violates copyright, again, and I have again deleted it. Can someone advise me of how the Wikipedia statement "Content that violates any copyright will be deleted." is actually enforced? -dawwpg

Excuse me, but how do you copyright a bus roster list? Information item like this is general public knowledge, and you cannot copyright it. --Jimj wpg (talk) 04:05, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm presuming the concern arises from the list here being very similar in design and content to the list on the external page. However, as you said, the information is public domain, so all one would need to do is rewrite it. (BTW, I'm removing Dawwpg's comment from the article - regardless of his/her concerns, it was an entirely inappropriate move.) --Ckatzchatspy 04:31, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone is right. The exact compilation of information and its layout are copyright of its creator, and it should not be copied here. The facts expressed in the tables are not copyrightable, and are fair game as long as they are true. The rules are enforced just like this: someone notices that there is a problem, it is confirmed, and the offending information is removed. Potential copyright violations are serious, and should be dealt with as soon as they are identified.

However, perhaps only a summary belongs in this article, and such a roster should be in a standalone List of Winnipeg Transit's rolling stock, or similar. Michael Z. 2008-06-24 05:02 z

Rapid Transit

[edit]

I've cleaned up the article a little bit and moved the rapid transit portion mentioned in recent developments into it's own sub-section. Would someone who is a little more informed on the topic be able to expand on the rapid transit ie LRT vs BRT? It's a hot button issue in Winnipeg right now. I would change it myself, but I'm fairly new to wikipedia and don't want to fill the article with uncited misinformation. -pollswpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pollswpg (talkcontribs) 07:55, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New Picture

[edit]

The picture is of a bus that is no longer in service. Can someone please replace it with a bus coming into Osborne Station, or similar?Njaohnt (talk) 20:25, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fleet Roster Removal

[edit]

The fleet roster was made from inside info, and indications from news articles. Should it be restored?Njaohnt (talk) 19:54, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Inside info" is not accepted in Wikipedia. That was completely unreferenced fancruft that is better presented at http://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Winnipeg_Transit by the CPTDB Wiki. There is no need to duplicate the table there when it is available from here by an external link. Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:39, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That is the fleet info ? This really doesn't tell me who makes the buses the fleet numbers the year I remember seeing that here Elmwood9999 (talk) 14:44, 11 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Planner & Director Names

[edit]

Who is the current Planner and who is the Director of Winnipeg Transit. The box does not say. Jimj wpg (talk) 21:20, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jimj wpg: Since you can edit Wikipedia and you have and interest in Winnipeg, why don't you do the research and add that information? Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:49, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have from the Jan. 2018 Pubic Works Committee meeting, a "G. Ewankiw" as "Acting Director of Winnipeg Transit". Jimj wpg (talk) 06:52, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jimj wpg: OK then. You should add that with the reference to the article. Secondarywaltz (talk) 22:20, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Artic. Buses

[edit]

"In addition to an order of 33 new regular 40-foot low-floor buses, Winnipeg Transit also ordered 20 new 60-foot articulated Diesel-Electric Hybrid buses; the first bus was delivered by the end of 2007.[23] The test of the first articulated bus was not successful, and that part of the order was cancelled."

Article says that WT ordered 20 artic. buses in 2007, and tried one of them, then cancelled the order. Article does not say WHY the order was cancelled. Jimj wpg (talk) 21:26, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Developments

[edit]

What constitutes a "recent development". After a few years, should that information move into the 1972-current section? Jimj wpg (talk) 01:52, 14 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

1976 Transit Strike

[edit]

I can't believe that in all of the years that this page has been up, there is abs. no information outlining the 1976 Transit strike. Given that WT is experiencing work issues relating to safety and work day scheduling, I feel it necessary and relevant to include the 1976 strike info. Trolley buses in Winnipeg

[edit]

Winnipeg trolley buses, from when till when?. I remember seeing paralltl trolley wires in March of 1969 when I took a quick look outside the train station during a stopover on my way to Montreal by CN. Peter Horn User talk 21:44, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
