Editing questions
[edit]Let me start off by saying that all of the following questions are intended to be read in a courteous and respectful tone. I realize there's a lot I'm having trouble understanding the intended meanings of, but I'm asking in the spirit of cooperation and understanding. :)
I had a couple of questions while copy editing, as the intended meaning is unclear: 1. "In this period, most merchandise was produced and the consignment was first marketed internationally." Does this mean "the most" as in, "the greatest quantity"? Or does it mean "the majority" as in, "the majority of the product lines were created (during this time)"?
I've changed the beginning of the "success and reception" section to read "Debertin experienced the peak success of his career for his television series Hallo Spencer". I think that was the intention of this sentence based on the rest of the paragraph. But it could also be read as "Hallo Spencer reached it's peak success during xyz years". Let me know if that's the intended message.
2. For this one: "The last 38 episodes, which were produced in the years 1995-2001 of PentaTV (in addition to the episodes from the first years and all city episodes) to the productions on which he remarkably had much impact. In these three seasons, only a very limited number of characters appear and also the actions to be validated by Einspieler films to frame actions. For these reasons, they are among the least popular episodes of the fan base and yet they were all released in 2007 on DVD, including bonus material"
3. Did you mean: "The last 38 episodes were productions on which he had very little impact"? or "from the last 38 episodes, on which he had very little impact, to the productions on which he had a remarkable amount of impact (assuming we're referring to a different portion of the series from the 1995-2001 seasons)"?
4. I think what you're trying to say with this paragraph: "The thing was flying in the course of a check by the NDR revision that had led to the fall of 2009 the transmitter. Until then, the waste material in the "Hallo Spencer" episodes had noticed anyone - including any employee of Ki.Ka, who also showed. The editorial director (fiction and program acquisition) of the children's channel is Debertin's brother Sebastian" is "This accusation was flying in the course of an investigation by NDR into what had led to the fall of the transmitter in 2009. Before then, the waste (or, unused) material from previously produced "Hallo Spencer" episodes had remained unnoticed by anyone, including any employee of Ki.Ka." I'm not sure what relevance the information about Debertin's brother Sebastian has to the controversy. If you could clarify that, I could edit it in at a place where it would flow well.
5. Does "Whether filled by Angelika Paetow in 2010 "at his own request" toward displacement related to the television film department of NDR with the problems Debertins is unclear" mean "Whether his firing by Angelika Paetow in 2010 "at his own request" was related to the problems the television film department of NDR had with Debertins is unclear"? Or am I missing some important information in the second version of the sentence?
6. does "In the editorial tail, was pointed out that the Abendblatt maintained its representation" mean "In an editoral, Abendblatt maintained its representation of the facts related to the investigation"? Ignus3 (talk) 04:12, 22 May 2018 (UTC)
This is an obscure article (fewer than 10 visits per day). My guess is that it was created as a translation from a German article by a person not entirely familiar with English grammar. Do what you will. No need to be so hesitant. David notMD (talk) 11:26, 23 May 2018 (UTC)
OK @DavidnotMD, I'll take that into account. This is the first page that appeared in the task list for copy editing for me, so it's the first thing I attempted to fix up. Sorry for being a bit nervous ^^; I did find the template to tag a page as needing translation help, so I added that on and posted it on the bottom of the translation project page. I figure this needs a translate pass before I attempt another copy edit pass.Ignus3 (talk) 00:11, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
