Application methods
[edit]"However, a typical window insulation film kit will not prevent convection unless the frame is less than 1 inch from the glazing. The top sash of a typical double hung window is 1-2 inches behind the lower sash which is 2-3 inches behind the window frame. This is too far to eliminate convection. In these situations, the kits work by reducing infiltration not convection, and are similar to interior 'storm windows.' The ideal distance for 2 sheets of glazing is about .5-.75 inches (refer to insulated glazing)."
In fact there are 2 ways to apply the film. One is to the outer frame, covering the whol window with one piece. This gives poor insulation and prevents window opening. The other method is to apply the film to the sash, producing a better insulation and not affecting opening/use. Tabby (talk) 14:39, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
What about window films that claim low E capabilities?
[edit]Firms like Gila and Energy Film make films for which they claim have winter insulative as well as solar control benefits. It would be great for a knowlewdgeable, objetive person to update this article with accurate information concerning those claims. thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.171.190.119 (talk) 21:11, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
