I'm not sure the etymology is entirely correct, as the Oxford English Dictionary online states that windfall in the sense of unexpected gain has been used as early as the 16th century. --Riyaah (talk) 06:53, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
What Colonists?
[edit]This article goes on about "the colonists?" Which colonists are these? In what country? In what era? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Misodoctakleidist (talk • contribs) 08:02, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Rush Limbaugh is distorting the history here without any authority at all--it's silly to bootstrap his totally uncited and unfounded history lesson as an authoritative source on wikipedia. The idea that the term comes exclusively from rules that applied to the "colonists"--because we know that the British crown only imposed rules on its colonial subjects, right?--is laughable on its face. The fact that Limbaugh makes this claim in support of the idea that windfalls are a "good thing" further indicates that his interest is in polemic and not historical accuracy. I'm removing that entire section until someone can point to an authoritative source for it. --116.68.195.130 (talk) 08:33, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
