Party affiliation

It seems to be a slight point of contention between editors whether or not to list Wilmot Collins as democratic or otherwise. I have very little education in the article at hand, but I thought it wise to open an avenue of discussion for editors. Please post your reasons and sources supporting your potential contribution, and a census can be reached among all involved.

When he appeared on The Daily Show, he said that he ran as an independent. After doing a Google search, I found sources that said that he leans Democrat, but nothing saying that he is officially alligned with them. Therefore, unless someone can produce a reliable source showing that he is in fact officially registered as a Democrat, we should just go by what he said on The Daily Show.
