The Vertigo line didn't exist in 1990, so it's hard for me to understand how Constantine can have only authorized for use there at that time. Also, Doom Patrol also became a Vertigo comic. So I'm not sure what on earth this sentence is talking about. 71.175.249.217 (talk) 20:08, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering the same thing. However, there was a policy about not allowing the Constantine outside of the pages of Hellblazer (although clearly it had some exceptions, since he appeared in both Swamp Thing and Sandman around that time) - when the writer of Firestorm wanted to use him, he was denied permission, and instead used a version of Rasputin, who was pointed out as Constantine analogue without Constantine himself being named. So yeah, the policy seems to have been real, but this all predates the Vertigo imprint's launch. Lokicarbis (talk) 12:04, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"The character was originally intended to be Vertigo Comics' John Constantine, but at the time DC Comics editorial policy forbade Constantine's use outside of the Vertigo continuity." This sentence makes no sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.142.131.108 (talk) 11:42, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I cleaned up some confusion as to the timeline of Vertigo comics and when characters were created.
