Connection with Lady Diana Spencer
[edit]I see from this external Daily Telegraph link [1] (dated 2009) that van Straubenzee was the brother of Philippa who married Major Jeremy Whitaker and whose family employed Lady Diana Spencer, aged 17, as a nanny (her first job after finishing school) at £16/week.
Is this something that should be on this page and/or on Diana's page? Tony Holkham (talk) 23:33, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- The link is:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/6672904/Roman-Polanski-will-be-too-late-to-complete-his-film.html. I must be formatting it wrong because it's not clickable... (still learning) Tony Holkham (talk) 20:29, 2 September 2013 (UTC)
You do know he has just been outed as a paedophile known to Margaret Thatcher through memos sent to her? http://news.sky.com/story/1523577/key-westminster-figures-in-child-abuse-documents
I don't know how this should be added to his biographical details. Derbluthund (talk) 17:02, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
Why can't you just add it? It's true, and the guy is dead.2.27.57.177 (talk) 21:28, 23 July 2015 (UTC)
- It's trivial, an indirect connection and not worth including. That van Straubenzee might have briefly met Lady Diana while visiting his sister is not significant and could not be proven anyway. By the way, as The Independent article indicates, the nature of the references to him in the newly released documents is not known. Making an assumption is enticing, but should be resisted, and this goes for Brittan, Hayman and Morrison as well. Philip Cross (talk) 07:39, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
I'm afraid to say that the way most of this posting is written is disturbing. The entry is clearly not written by anybody who speaks English as their first language whilst the log of edits performed on this page point to a user who only provides an IP address that turns out to be registered to someone with a fake email address.

Tautology?
[edit]Under section "Church of England" it states he was:
A progressive within the Anglican and CoE
Understanding Anglican to mean pertaining to the Church of England and CoE (I usually read CofE) the Church of England's initials, there appears to be a tautology, unless there is a missing word after the "Anglican".Cloptonson (talk) 20:11, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
Non-free image
[edit]I have added a non-free image to the article, but have not removed the reqphoto template, in the hope that someone might find a free-use image one day. Storye book (talk) 15:47, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
Incorrect comment
[edit]"Becoming a member of the British Army, due to his later loyalty to the British Crown, Philip was naturalized as a British citizen by Act of Parliament in 1759 at the request of George II."
This is surely incorrect and refers to another person with the same name. 2A02:85F:9A07:D700:3D6B:BE4B:4B3F:6CE2 (talk) 10:33, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
