Fehmarn
[edit]on http://www.fehmarnsches-tageblatt.de/specials/History/LordStrang/LordStrang.php you can see an commemorative plaque at the museum of local history on fehmarn. the text means:
this plaque shall commemorate the british diplomat lord strang of stonesfield.
through his firm attitude lord strang of stonesfield achieved in a hard trial with the representatives of the soviet union, that after world war II 1939 to 1945 with the successional division of our fatherland the island of fehmarn was assigned to british zone of occupation and later to the federal republic of germany instead of the former german democratic republic.
his insistence on his position was the key to freedom and democracy, which the people of fehmarn experienced and developed after the war and the time of occupation.
through this the resolute and succesful action of lord strang of stonesfield was the condition for renovation and progressive action in the second half of the 20th century on the island of fehmarn and it will take his place in the history of the island.
