[edit]I have no first hand knowledge on this subject, but my late father worked as an instructor with the Roayal Artillery during WW2, in the course of which service he was involved with sound ranging. He used to tell the story that Tucker got the idea for the hot wire mic whilst sitting in an outside toilet, where he noticed the cooling effect on his backside produced by the wind blowing through under the seat! This would seem to agree in principle with what is stated in the article. (80.7.23.101 (talk) 16:36, 7 August 2011 (UTC))
