[edit]This is my first Wiki entry, and I learn (primarily) by diving right in and "playing" and experimenting". I would not be surprised if I may have done things incorrectly or if there are many things that could be improved. I also learn by following others and their examples; thus, I have followed other Wiki entries to create this entry for William Pinar.
Also, I teach a graduate course on curriculum theory. I have asked my grad class this year, as part of their work, to create a Wiki entry for a curriculum theorist of their own choosing. As such, I have offered to "model" (through this example) what such an entry could look like.
I hope that the Wiki community will be "gentle" as my class and I struggle just a bit to learn about this amazing on-line tool and the standards of this community. For me, and my grad students I suspect, this will be a rather organic task which will grow in time - and, hopefully, without being deleted as we learn.
Thanks, Darren (Rdstanley)
- Wikipedia has policies on biographies of living persons, and on the notability of academics. I strongly suggest you and your class examine these. Fifelfoo (talk) 05:34, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- Are you implying this article doesn't appropriately establish notability?
- PS We could always just be charitable and say "yes, your class may do such a project!" There are a few policies to be aware of, namely Wikipedia:School and university projects and, given the particular topic proposed, Wikipedia:Notability (academics). There may also be a few other applicable guidelines; as you read through those links I've provided, you should come across them. RDStanley, if you'd like, I'm here for you to ask any questions or help you find anything→though I'm not an admin and not particularly experienced, I've been here for a while and can maybe find my way around a bit quicker. Any questions are welcome.
- Pointing the academic to the policy's important. Pinar meets our tests, but it would be a shame for the student-contributors to pick a theorist who isn't Wikipedia notable, or to write a Biography of a Living Person that didn't meet criteria. Fifelfoo (talk) 05:51, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
- RDStanley, I've written a little (if convoluted) bit of a "toolbox" on your User Talk page for you to refer to as you plan the assignment. Hope it helps. I'll be back tomorrow to help you with any questions you have, good luck.
- This was not supposed to be such a trying exercise (for me nor my class). I am tempted now not to do this here. Truly, I have been turned off, but not because of the comments here - I am most appreciative for your comments and support. I have already reviewed a number of the suggested pages, many of which I have actually found to be unhelpful in terms of direction and actually doing what they suggest. I can see my students getting immensely frustrated over this. Thus, I shall not invite my class to create and contribute entries of curriculum theorists, notable figures in the history of N. America curriculum theory. They will only experience threats of deletion and such. And, then I will be left to pick up the pieces. Thank you to Peace and Passion. (RDStanley)
- Well that's disappointing! Sorry the pages came across that way; if you ever change your mind we're all here to help (as well as the WikiProject Classroom Coordination). Also, your contribution was very well put together (especially for a first article)—we would still appreciate any contributions you might ever be willing to make!
