[edit]Oh dear - despite one source saying that Lowndes "was credited with originating" the phrase "Ways and Means", this source says that the House of Commons founded a Committee of Ways and Means in 1641...
The first Chairman of the Committee was apparently Richard Hampden (perhaps a relative of his father than the one our article is about, as he would only have been 10 in 1641) and Sir Alan Haselhurst is the 63rd, he says... -- ALoan (Talk) 00:07, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have deleted the reference to originating the phrase "Ways and Means" - it can't be right. -- ALoan (Talk) 10:17, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Although grammatically ambiguous, isn't the phrase, "take care of the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves." Has someone been too zealous in this respect, or am I mistaken? Dainamo 07:29, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
- I have added a citation - "pence" seems to be the original. -- ALoan (Talk) 10:17, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
